Error when NOT in docking station

Hi All,
I am running an app on a T60.
When it's in the docking station, it works fine.
When I run it when it's not in the docking station, it crashes in the
middle.
When I run disconnected from the dock, I make sure to have a working network connection,
and the power cable is connected too.
The only USB device is a mouse, and it's in the USB port on the side
of the T60.
Other users in the co. have complained of similar problems, also with
T42 notebooks.
What could be so special about the docking station?
The app is pretty file intensive, and there seems to be no net access.
