Clicking HD in new T60 Wide - Should I worry

#1 Post by s1148625 » Mon Mar 05, 2007 2:42 pm

I've had this new T60 Wide (8744-5BU) for about 2 weeks now. I use the computer primarily on a small table in my living room. The table has a bit of wiggle in it, and I noticed today that if I slightly bump it while the computer is on, I hear the hard drive give the old "click of death." We're talking slight movement, not even really jarring.

I looked at the ThinkVantage Active Protection applet in control panel, and it looks like the click occurs whenever the heads are parked and then re-engage after the shock is over.

My previous T42 never exhibited this behavior, and I can consistently get the new T60 to click.

Should I be calling Lenovo support to get a replacement drive, or is this normal?

Thanks,

Rob

You can lower the sensitivity of APS. In control panel, click "Active Protection System" and then slide the "Shock detection sensitivity" slider to the left.
