T60P widescreen speaker issue
I just recently purchased two Lenovo T60P Widescreen laptops 8744-J2U and I noticed that the speakers crackle/Vibration alittle bit when at full volume and I'm listening to a particular audio. I checked the other T60P and it does the same thing. So I wonder if that justs the way it is. Below is a sample video link with audio that the speakers crackle on. Those with t60's let me know if you experience this problem as well. It almost seems like a vibration issue. I had the volume turned up to max. I have a T40p and no problems. Any thoughts would be appreciated

Re: T60P widescreen speaker issue
I have the same model 8744J2U and when I visit this site with the volume turned up, no distortion or vibration. I wish I could make the same comments about the quality of the video.

The video Todd posted doesn't cause any distortion on my Thinkpad 8744 either. But I have audio material that uses some frequencies that causes the left speaker to crackle. I don't know, perhaps when Todd uploaded the footage, the online service reencoded his audio/video, causing the frequency to disappear. Todd, if you run the the video on the site you gave us, does it still make your speaker crackle?
@jeffm: My Thinkpad came with Vista pre-installed and I am still having this problem.

I didn't upload the video. I was just trying to find audio that would cause the speaker to crackle. I just think the speakers just can't handle certain frequencies. Would be nice if there was software that would cut certain frequences from going to the speakers. My solution was to get some logitec usb powered speakers from staples. There on sale this week for $29. There lightweight and sound 100% better then the ones built in to the T60. Very little bass

It's definitely software-related. I had a video last night that made the left speaker crackle. At least under Vista there is one process called DLG.exe (Digital Line Detect) that's always started. So I went ahead, deleted this process, and restarted the video player - and voila, same video, no more crackling sound. I haven't done enough testing to find out if it was really related to this process, but obviously, if the same video crackles one time and doesn't crackle after a restart, it cannot be the hardware and something software-related has changed.
I too have had this problem, and thought it was something loose in my speaker. The problem would come and go, and I never thought that it was a software problem until you just mentioned it, at which point I plugged it into real speakers and the crackle is still playing through the Bose surround sound >.<. Does anyone know a fix for this?
Edit: for the record, I am on a WS T60. Also, I find that the problem is solved by putting the computer in sleep and pulling it back out, which doesn't take that much time, but it'd be nicer if it never happened.

... which clearly shows, too, that it is software-related. Should I find out what's causing it, I will report.jeffyeh wrote:I too have had this problem, and thought it was something loose in my speaker.
