T60 Clean Install

My bro received the T60 series and would like to do a clean install, yet when trying to run the Windows XPp installation, the system states that no hard drive can be found and that setup cannot continue. The system is brand new and of course there is a hard drive. BIOS states that the hdd password is disabled...

I know it's possible to do this... just not sure what's happening. And yes, the Windows XPp version I have is legitimate - afforded to me by my University.

Any ideas?

Thank you

The reason for the error message is because Windows XP is not "SATA"-savvy at the install level. Enter the BIOS with F1, go to Config/Serial ATA (SATA), and change the SATA mode to "Compatibility". After you do that you will be able to proceed with the Windows XP installation.

Oh good God!

Here we go again.

Just run the install from the recovery partition and remove anything you don't want afterwards.

Your copy of XP is looking for a PATA HD, but the T60 has a SATA HD.
