Pc doctor, ati x1400 gpu, failed testing?

#1 Post by ducky2802 » Sat Mar 10, 2007 11:42 pm

Hi everyone,

I was playing with all the programs that came standard on the T60 (T2500, 100GB HDD, 1GB Mem, ATI X1400), and one of them, PC Doctor, gave me a pretty strange error:

*Wireframe Line Test*
Error Message Driver has entered an invalid state 88760827

I ran the test from PC Doctor, System and Device test, Video, Video card.

Thinking that on a brand new laptop, it would be strange to have an error of any sorts, I figured might as well set every back to oem specs (factory clean install), and see if the error would disappear. After tinkering, and 3 factory reinstalls later, I figured out that using the 32-bit color setting (16.7M colors) as opposed to the default 16-bit color setting, gives me this error at every resolution, up to native 1400x1050.

IBM tech support says it may be a failing inverter card and LCD panel, and that I would have to send my laptop in for repair. Having just got the laptop and not having a single scratch or smudge anywhere, I am a little reluctant to do so, especially if the LCD seems to be working just fine.

Does anyone else get this error???

Ducky,

I just ran the test for you on my T60 and it does not fail here.

I have 1 GB, an X1400, a 2.0 Ghz Core2Duo, XP Pro. The drivers are still those Lenovo installed, 8.293.1.0 according to PC-Doctor. I did update my DirectX to the latest from MS so that I could run 3DMARK06 (~960 score). I run my desktop at 32 bpp.

So ... a negative result for you. I'd still guess it's some software or config thing, without any real evidence.

(There's something a little flaky about the video architecture in these machines--like when I try to run NHC and it crashes and then even after a cold boot the video driver crashes until I go in and out of safe mode. And some other odd blacks screens, etc. Weird.)

Oh, and of course the tech's guess (correct word) that your inverter or panel had anything to do with this sets a firm upper bound on his IQ at 2 digits. Not a clever fellow.

Good luck.

To compare two systems with confidence, you should have identical video adapters, identical video drivers, and identical versions of PC Doctor. Even the BIOS versions might be a factor.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I just did the full lenovo drivers/software update (now the sonic recordnow software refuses to work, but I think I can get around that for now), and Ill try the directX update as well (though it seems to be at the latest). Hopefully I can figure something out soon!

Have you ever considered that statistically slightly less then half of the total population has an IQ of 99 or less. Scary ain't it.

Yeah, but do they all have to work in tech support?!

Heavy concentrations in Washington DC, also.
