Hi,
I used these registry keys
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\ClassicStartMenu]
"{6af09ec9-b429-11d4-a1fb-0090960218cb}"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel]
"{6af09ec9-b429-11d4-a1fb-0090960218cb}"=dword:00000001
As you can guess, all it does it hide the icon (good enough for me), but when you "explore" the folders, you still have the bluetooth places show up (also, good for me because I do use bluetooth a few times a week).

TweakUI can also handle this.

Download tweak UI from here and install it. Make sure that you install the right version and not the one named itanium. After you install it, navigate to the "Desktop" tree on the left and you'lls ee a checkbox for bluetooth places. Uncheck it and restart your machine, it should be gone.

Download from Microsoft:

I also use TweakUI to remove the bluetooth icon from desktop.
