Today when I push the thinkvantage button in windows I get nothing but a couple flutters of the cursor. Nothing actually happens just a brief movements on the cursor. I choose thinkvanatge from the proram menu and choose update software and it said i need the hotkey driver. I did install that but button still does not work. Maybe the hotkey file does not refer to blue thinkvantage key.

On my T42, I know that the following is required.

Access Help Online User's Guide
Hotkey Features driver

The T60 is a bit different, and I cannot give you all the information needed. I suggest you go through the Readme files of each of the following. I am not sure which are needed, but I am fairly certain you need the Hotkey Features driver and probably either the Access Help Online User's Guide or the Help Center.

Access Help Online User's Guide
Help Center
ThinkPad Message Center
ThinkVantage Productivity Center
Hotkey Features driver
Notes:

If Access IBM has been installed, it is required to uninstall Access
IBM before installing Help Center.
NOTES

If Access IBM Message Center has been installed, it is required to
uninstall Access IBM Message Center before installing Message
Center.

HouseKitten, are your wireless issues solved?

Well gator yes and no. It works for a while and then when I shutt down and turn on again later the connection is there but I am unable to get online (or have internet access). I called Lenovo yesterday and because the card is working fine they tell me it is a software program and I must call Microsoft (or get assitance elsewhere).

Yesterday I was so frustrated I started access conenctions and then choose diagnostic tools. I got an error code 17 which said "Internet is not responding" Verify the configuration of your firewall program". The only firewall I have is windows firewall and I have disabled that.

I also got this message: ACMAIN.EXE - Application Error. The instruction @ ox73dd11c7" referenced memory @ ox-xxxxx??? could not be read. Click OK to terminate.

Any ideas. I could not sue the version of access conenctions that you use becasue the driver of the ibm wirelsss card I have needs version 4.23.

Thanks for helping. I really do like this system but it is so hard to troubleshoot this thing.

Does this sound like an IE problem???

HouseKitten, I don't have any solution except to suggest a factory reinstall using Rescue and Recovery ... if you decide to take that route, do not install any updates until you are 100% sure that they are stable and will not mess your system.

There seem to be many issues with AC 4.23, a/b/g/n drivers and hopefully thigs will get allrigt with the next update. Sorry that none of our suggestions worked, and sorry if we had wasted a lot of your time. :(

Have you seen this? http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3563

Read the "wireless" section about 3/4 way down, he seemed to have the problem fixed.

I'm very interested to hear if this fixes your wireless problem as I am on the verge of getting the 87445BU T-60 and I really hate to buy into a nightmare on one aspect of the laptop when the rest of it is very good.

BTW, how do you like the WS quality?

Gator, you definatly did not waste my time. It has been a challenge but I'll get throught it. If you have any other ideas please let me know. I have since discontinued windows wirelss and had previously diabaled the deep sleep in the intel network driver. I can not figure out why outlook express would not start. (I have not upgraded to 7 because I don't like that version).

Aviography, have you owned a thinkpad before? I have a t-42 that I just love. I really like this too but under the recommendation of a friend I bought the WS. I think I would have preferred the 14" but I am too getting over that. I now have it set up so the screen is readable and I do see that advantages of a WS. It is also lighter than my T-42 (but I have a 9 cell battery in that). I have disabled the "deep smart power down". I am beginning to wonder if the problem lies with internet explorer and not Lenovo.

I must confess that when I got the T-42 I was not fond of that laptop immediatly, but over 2-3 years I have grown to just love that old crunker (so much so I am adding more memory and a new battery).

I am in agreement with Gator, I thought about a reininstall and may do that but first am experimenting with something else. The day before I received this laptop my husband bought home a linksys router to daisy chain on to our netgear router. This router is all pre configured with the company's wireless setting and he uses it with his company thinkpad. Funny thing is he too has begun having the same problem (getting online) and his TP is 2 years old. When we unplug the router, the problem (seems) to goes away. My husband is part of company experiment using wirelss at home, but since Monday we have disconnected the linksys router and I have not had any problems yet. It is hard to say if that was causing the problems or if it was accress connections which I have installed and reinstalled about 8 times.

aviography, ya I would say get one. Just remember what doesn't kill us makes us stronger!!!!

House Kitten,

Yeah I have had ThinkPads before, a 600 series about 8 years ago and then the T23 for the past 4.5 years, what sold me the T23 was the 14" 1400x1050 screen, I don't know if it is the IPS, Flexview or whatever technology people have discussed about recently, all I know is that it is one sharp gorgeous screen, it is like reading a high quality magazine printing than a computer, there is literally no pixelization of any kind.

Granted I had to up the charater fonts in the advance display setting to make it more readable, and it can be hard on the eyes in programs like PhotoShop and some web sites with non-adjustable fonts.

That said I am running the latest IE and an external Microsoft keyboard with a zoom slider which allow me to magnify the web pages quickly and easily.

I'm going to see a person tonight who is selling his 2 months old WS, supposedly because his company is changing to Mac Book Pro (although I don't know why he is selling his as he had posted on another forum 2 months ago that he ordered two, one for the company from Lenovo and the other one from a regular computer store).

If nothing else hopefully I will get to see what the quality of the wide screen display is.

I sure didn't think it would be a quandry in deciding on a third ThinkPad!

Housekitten, silly question, but I ask it because it doesn't sound like this was purchased through "normal" retail channels. Did this come factory-sealed?

I only ask because if it was open-box or anything like that, it might need to be reloaded. (It might not be a bad idea to reload it just on general purposes at this point) Back your personal data/settings off somewhere, restore to factory contents, and then run ThinkVantage System Update. That will go out to the web and download/install any available updates from Lenovo. It isn't 100%, but it gets most everything that you will need.

In general, I don't care much for the Intel wireless driver set, but that is neither here nor there. If you don't feel like doing a reimage, at least go through and uninstall Access Connections (if it is showing in Add/Remove Programs) then go into the properties for your wireless card, and remove the AEGIS protocol, uninstall your wireless driver, and then reboot, and run System Update.

It is kind of a pain, but I have been through this a bunch, and that seems to address many of the issues. The other thing I would do, if and when you can get Access Connections working is to create a profile for your home wireless, and under wireless settings/4.Advanced configuration, change the setting to Maximum Performance. I think that by default, it will be Max. Power Saving, and that will diminish your performance as well.

There is also an updated Intel driver that is supposed to hit the streets soon, which should fix (and probably create) additional problems.

I don't mean to throw Intel under the bus, and talk about how great Lenovo is, but many of the problems you are having on your ThinkPad, you would probably be having with any other OEM with the Intel card on board.

Thinkfanatic, I do not have the intel wireless card. I believe my problems were caused by 2 routers which were diay chained together. My husband works at a major company who is beginning a wireless program (for home use) for certain supervisors. He was supplied a company router which had to be daisy chained to our router. When his router was removed form the picture all my problems disapeared.

PS I use the intel card on my T-42 and I couldn't be happier with its use.

Access Connections 4.23 with Intel Card

I have a T60 with the Intel card. After updating to AC 4.23 the wireless will no longer work. I have seen this problem on about ten computers. The only solution has been to uninstall the Intel drivers and AC 4.23, then reinstall using AC 4.12 or 3.88. I tried the "IBM Thinkpad model T60 Wireless Settings" tutorial but this did not solve the problem.

One thing I have noticed that after hitting Fn+F5 I am still not able to turn on the wireless. I have pressed the "On" button but it does nothing.

Oh subii you are right were I was a week ago. I now have my wireless working finally. If you press the Fn+F5 key and nothing happens tyou need to get the hotkey update. Probably should get he thinkvantage update also. I am using 4.23 and it works for me but only because I uninstalled AC, wireless driver, intel proset 1000 driver and power management. I then reinstalled, Intel driver, wirelss driver, AC and finally power management. Everything works now. I also adjusted the setting in my profile for high nework performance because when I would be on battey the computer tried to save power and would shut off wireless. I ended up choosing the power management option to optimize for power source.

Lenovo tech support will help you regardless of where you purchased your Lenovo computer (within the warranty service area at least) so don't hesitate to contact Lenovo tech support to help you through this. Right now no one can help you very effectively because it seems that you don't have all the information you need at hand, and you may need to go back to some basic hand holding. For example, Outlook Express is not how I would try to assess whether a wireless connection is working or not.
