part number for T60 ultrabay hdd adapter?

#1 Post by skanky » Tue Mar 13, 2007 2:09 pm

upgraded to a 160gb hdd and want to reuse my 100gb drive, the t4x ultrabay while fits in the t60's ultrabay, it has only IDE connections and no SATA connections.

whats the part number for the T60's ultrabay adapter? is there any way of hooking up the old drive without buying the adapter?

i have sata ports on my desktop, can my drive work in a desktop motherboard? if so, do the normal sata power plugs work with notebook sata drives?

Hi,

Part number is 40Y8725 , the SATA version of the ultra bay slim adaptor. I know IBM ships pretty fast here in the USA, but if you HAVE to use the 100Gb asap, you can buy these little USB SATA/IDE converter cables for around $10 US which will allow you to hook up prett much any HDD to a USB 2.0 interface. Pretty nice to have around, especially if you are planning on changing out HDDs. Also, I heard, but havent tried myself, that a benefit to using the SATA interface in notebooks is that you can simply hook them up into desktop mobo's, unlike the PATA version which required adaptors.

40Y8725 - for SATA drives
41U3148 - for PATA drives

both work in the T60 ...

An easy, cheap way to use your old drive with the thinkpad is to get a cheap PATA USB enclosure and make it a USB drive ... adapters are around $45-$50 while the best adapters cost less than half of this.

thanks for the part numbers/advice.

i think i'll get a ultrabay adapter as im not a fan of the USB options. the drive will mainly be used as a storage/ghost drive and connecting it via ultrabay is a lot faster even with a PATA drive.
