Replacing EVDO card

Hi All,

I bought my Laptop (T60) only yesterday. Very excited!

I have one question - I travel a fair amount and would like to know if I can replace the internal Verizon WWAN EVDO card i got with the machine with a HSDPA/EDGE card as most places abroad have that standard. I can always use a PCMCIA, but it would be great if i could make it internal.

Why didn't I just buy it with one built-in? Because I got a great deal on this model and EVDO was what it had.

I've been wondering about the exact same thing for days .
I've asked a friend of mine (techsales at Lenovo France), but still got no answer. I'll let you know if I get one.

Though, you have to know that mini PCI HSDPA cards are very expensive (400$ at least).

Just speculation here, but I believe you will get an 1802 error or something equivalent if you use a non-Lenovo branded WWAN card. Search the forum for 1802 using the Search button at the top of the page to get more info on that error.

As far as I'm concerned, it is an IBM HSDPA card that I'd like to replace my EVDO card with

Your machine may not have a SIM card holder. The SIM card holder is accessible from the underside of the machine, after you remove the battery. The SIM card holder can be added to any machine that does not have one by removing the keyboard bezel and installing FRU #41W1353.

From what I gather here, it seems like you can replace the card (with an IBM card and perform some surgery for the SIM holder).

Do you think there will be a problem with the antenna because of different frequencies?

From what I can tell, Verizon, Sprint, & Cingular all use the 1900 frequency band for 3G. Vodafone uses the 2100 frequency band. Only (2) different antennas are listed in the Service Parts List for the T60. One is just called a WWAN antenna, and the other a WWAN antenna for Vodafone models. So I take this to mean that if you switch from Verizon to Cingular or vice versa, the antenna should be the same.
