I canceled my order for a T60P (8744C9U) from Lenovo today and reordered the same configuration from PCConnection. Lenovo's warranty was for one year and PCConnection offered the same warranty (parts and labor) for a three year period. The Lenovo sales rep told me the warranties were different for off-the-shelf machines vs. custom builds. The PCConnection rep said theirs was a strandard Lenovo warranty. Does anyone know why they are different?
Thanks,

Lenovo's warranty comes in following numbers:
1 Year Limited Warranty
3Yr Standard Depot Warranty
3 Yr On Site Warranty
4 Yr Standard Depot Warranty
4 Yr On Site Warranty
and they cost extra other than standard one.

Lenovo provides 3 years depot for pre configured TP's from what I can see.
The machines the resellers have appear to be pre-ordered and preconfigured, thus 3 year depot.
As to why the difference between pre and custom - it could be to push people to pre-configuered or it just cost them more to custom configure. Adding 3 years to that lowers margins.
By the machine you want and go from there. If your not choosey, you should be able to get 3 year depot at lenovo direct or reseller with pre's... Just pick the best pre config that meets your needs.
