Hi people!

I am going to buy a Thinkpad soon to replace my old t42p and i have virtually unlimited budget. However therer seem to be so many different versions of the t60p and they all are slightly differently speced.
What is your advice which model is the most powerful for gaming.
Also would you buy a t60p now or wait for the new ones with santa rosa ?
Questions over questions.

Regards Ancient.

I think the most powerful model is 20088HU:

T7600(2.33GHz), 2GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm HD, 14.1in 1400x1050 LCD, 256MB ATI FireGL V5250, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 9c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

I have a T41P and had the same problem as to wait or buy now.

I decided to buy now and have bought the above model

Hi

Yes I think I made the right decision since I change my ThinkPad every 3 years.

I bought mine from Bill the owner of the thinkpad.com (Have been doing it for a very very long time and can't be happier with his service)

Like you right now I'm not in US either. Bill organizes everything for me via FedEx.

the Euclid Computers is another possibilities

I would wait a few weeks to see if they release the 14in widescreen T60p.

Just checked and wondered what the difference is in the 2007-8HU and the 2008-8HU, besides the little price difference?

Go for the 15" flexview screen. I love mine!

Near as I can tell by the specs, they both have 14.1 screens. :?

Check the warranty. The 20088HU is 3 years limited onsite service and 20078HU is 3 years.

UT08JUK is one of the most powerful models that's actually advertised by several UK online retailers, for example:

http://uk.insight.com/apps/nbs/index.ph ... nkpad+T60p

It's got a 14" 4:3 screen, which would be my personal preference, else check out the other machines on that page. The only thing I'd possibly upgrade is another GB of RAM. It was advertised in several places, for example www.dabs.com, at a much better price (around 1,430 + VAT), but I'm dubious whether that deal was real. I used to shop with them, but I think their reputation has gone downhill. They abolished phone lines. You can only 'talk' to them via email or web conferencing.

If you can wait for Santa Rosa (May / June), rumour has it that high-end Thinkpads will have a different, e.g. possibly nVidia, DX10 compliant graphics chip. That ought to be a sizeable leap forward for games.

Yeah, the smaller the screen zie the better. I have a big 24" widescreen that I use when I am at my desk and have my smaller screen for when I am on the road and awayfrom my desk, couldn't be any happier.

I just wish the 9 cell didn't protrude from the back of the lappy. But I can't have it all, and since I spend about 60% of my time unplugged it is pretty critical to have the larger battery.
