Wireless Not Connected Issue (After Hibernation)

#1 Post by spietrek » Tue Mar 20, 2007 12:11 pm

I searched the forum and although I found many wireless issues, I did not find one which matches my issue.

I have Windows Vista Business (preinstalled).

Yesterday I installed Virtual PC 2007 and attempted to communicate between my host OS (Vista) and guest OS (XP Pro). I found that you should install the Microsoft Loopback Adapter which I did. Although this worked, I could ping my guest OS from the host OS, I no longer had internet access. After messing around with it a little more, I realized my host OS was not on the same workgroup I use for all my other machines. Once all clients (virtual and non) were on the same workgroup, everybody could communicate with each other.

I went ahead and uninstalled the Microsoft Loopback Adapter (in Device Manager). Now, whenever I come back from hibernate, my Wireless connection is no longer working. If I go into Control Panel-Network and Internet-View network status and tasks, there are only two pieces (my computer) and Internet, with a big X in the middle. It also says I am currently not connected to any networks.

If I click the red X or if I right-click on the Wireless icon in the status tray (lower-right hand corner in the Taskbar and select "Diagnose and repair", a dialog is displayed. If I select to "Automaticaly get new IP settings for the network adapter "Wireless Network Connection"", it resolves itself and I am connected again.

Sometimes when there is an issue, I'll go into the Network and Sharing Center and the site map will have 3 pieces (my computer), Internet, and Unidentified Network. The red X will be between the Unidentified Network and Internet. Again, clicking on the red X and selecting to get new IP settings will solve the issue.

If I reboot my system, it seems to connect just fine. I do notice that coming back from hibernate, before scanning my fingerprint, the screen greys out like what happens when UAC kicks in and there is a beep (the same when you plug in another device).

Before resolving the issue The ThinkVantage Access Connections has a status of Disconnected.

Can somebody recommend what to do to resolve this issue? Thanks
