Catalyst on T60p / FireGL 5200

#1 Post by san » Fri Mar 23, 2007 10:07 am

I just received my T60p with FireGL 5200, T2600 Core Duo and the old Flexview 1600x1200 this morning.
Having read about many required "hacks" to get the ordinary Catalyst drivers installed, I was pretty surprised that the installation went 100% smooth with fresh Catalysts downloaded off ATI's site and installed on a fresh Vista Business.
Ran a quick 3Dmark05 on default settings and got a quite nice score of 3575 (nice, considering the v5200 is underclocked compared to the X1600).
Just thought I would let you all know (hope this is not kind of old news). Compared to my current T60 x1400 scoring around 2390 the jump in performance is not insignificant.

Where/how did you purchase a T60p with UXGA screen?

This purchaser found a model that was made last year. You can tell this because it is a T60p with a CoreDuo processor (Current T60ps only come with Core2Duo), a V5200 (current models have a V5250), and last but not least the UXGA screen (which was discontinued around the time the switch from CoreDuo to Core2Duo happened).

Why Lenovo did not change the T60p name to a T61p when these changes took place I don't know. Or maybe they didn't happen all at the exact same time and were phased in....

My wife has the same laptop, and the original poster, and it was bought late last year.

I bought it second hand, only because I wanted the Boe Hydis IPS panel. They did something to the anti reflective coating on the current LG-Phillips SXGA+ IPS displays that gives me headache.
A shame since the actual display is super crisp with excellent color, but the coating "sparkles", at least on the one I got.
Now the BOE hydis seems brighter and it doesnt sparkle at all. It is a really excellent display that I highly recommend.

I'd love to see what this sparkle business is all about. I have the LG Flexview, it looks fine to me. It seems some are sensitive to it and some are not.
