Tip on flexview color profiles

A tip for photographers and others who require accurate color:
IBM supplies a profile called TPFLX.ICC , this profile works wonders for the BOE Hydis UXGA display found in the old T60p.
But appearently is not meant for the T60(p) with LG-Phillips SXGA+ display. Use the standard sRGB profile for that display instead.

Or get a hardware colorimeter and generate a profile specific to your particular display. :)

Some people have claimed that an attempt to profile these displays will not make things better. I have no way of knowing, but perhaps it has to do with the limited 6 bit color depth. Anyway, I find the mentioned stock profiles very accurate. I mean like "wow!" - never expected this much from a laptop display.

Yeah, the FlexView screen is amazing! The colour and contrast out of the box is pretty close to the custom profile I am using (Gretag-Macbetch Eye One Display 2 puck and the basICColor 4.1 software). I hear LG.Philips discontinued the panel, and Lenovo may not be producing any more FlexView Thinkpads at all???

My wife's T60p currently is set with this color profile but the color reproduction is horrible. Any ideas?

I'm assuming you have the SXGA+ Flexview screen?

If so, don't use TPFLEX. Set sRGB as the default profile. Most attempts to profile the Flexview screen will end up worse than just using it without a custom profile and selecting sRGB.

I tried changing the color profile to sRGB and AppleRGB(which I am using on my T43) and the colors don't even change? Am I doing something wrong?

Same here, it doesn't change for me either. Even went to the directory that the color profile .icm files are stored and moved/renamed the TPFLEX.icm file, and added Windows default sRGB profile via the normal Display Properties page, but again nothing changed. Rebooted and ran some registry cleaners, but again no change...not certain what's up.

The profile is only applied when you run a program like Photoshop or Lightroom that know how to apply it. Just leave it on sRGB and you will be fine, sRGB is the default Windows profile. Don't leave it on AppleRGB.
