New t60 with blank screen?

#1 Post by salin » Thu Mar 29, 2007 7:34 am

I just got a new T60 yesterday. I made a recovery backup disc first and had not loaded any programs yet. I then closed the lid and had some dinner. When I returned and opened the lid............the screen was blank.
Not being familiar with ThinkPads, I don't know what I may be able to try to get the screen back.
I tried the usual enter key, Esc, Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and finely the power button...........none of this worked and it would not power down either.

hold the power button down for ten seconds to turn it off, then try booting up again.

@salin
Do you have Vista loaded on your T60, or is it XP?

I went with XP as I need it for work. Our IT guy said to stay away from Vista for now.

I have a question for you. I'm in the process of setting up my T60 and I usually use a guy I know who does computer work for a living. He has many large company clients such a car dealerships so I feel he knows what he is doing.
He wants me to use the Norton Interned Security Suite.................. I don't much care for Norton.
I was thinking of a stand alone AV program, but the Norton Suite has everything I should use such as the firewall.
Your site endorses NOD 32. Can this be purchased from a retailer locally her in Phoenix.
How should I evaluate this?

NOD32 is excellent antivirus software. You can purchase it online and download it using the NOD32 link above. They also offer a free 30-day trial. Looking at the same site, I see the following as the closest reseller in your area.

nod's the best, both in terms of spotting viruses and resource usage. it's only 30 bucks a year or so, and certainly a good deal at that price. stay away from norton!

There's also ClamWin, which is entirely free, has daily updates, and integrates with Outlook to scan all your incoming e-mail.

I have encountered this as well. Someone said that it happens because of a conflict between Windows XP and Lenovo power management drivers.

I would very much like to know what a solution to this problem is...
