Is this going to work as a tv-out solution?

As we all know T60 has no s-video output. Only the vga output. However, after installing the Omega drivers, one of the possible settings for the vga output is YPbPr Composite. My tv (Panasonic viera) has this type of input. I searched on google and i found vga to YPbPr cable type, but i didn't ordered yet.

Do you think this solution can work?

ps: I remember reading in the tv manual a warning advice, not to connect directly a 5V computer output to the tv (or something like this).

Well, just to ask, your tv doesn't have a VGA port does it? Seems some of the Vieras do have them. A VGA port would probably be best for a VGA connection, but thats just my opinion.

Anyways, I would be somewhat wary of this idea (component adapter), because you are coupling third party video drivers with a converter that changes the signal significantly.

Not sure if this will help, but ATI used to sell VGA to Component adapters off of their website. I would think this will probably work as long as you can get the laptop to send out the correct signal in terms of sync rates.

I've done this before in the reverse (Component-Progressive out) to VGA-in without changing the signal. If you TV only does Interlaced I wouldn't think that it would work unless the ATI x1400 still supports that VGA-Component Dongle.

I don-t think this will work, and still i prefer the vga - component solution. I'm expecting a better quality with it. I will soon have an adapter cable and let you know what comes out.

I've tried a vga to RF converter but the quality was really poor.

It is about YPbPr Component (NOT composite) tv input. Sorry for that ....

After some more research the answer is unfortunately NO.

Even if x1400 is capable of hdtv output (http://ati.amd.com/products/mobilityrad ... specs.html) this was implemented through the DVI output and not the VGA one. So to obtain HDTV from the T60 you need the Advanced Mini-dock from lenovo (for 160 to 200 USD, or 170EUR if you leave in Europe as i do).

Another solution is to use a converter from vga to hdtv (130USD or 175EUR).

If you can leave with a poor quality solution you can use a vga to composite adapter, or even a vga to EURO-SCART cable (as masterus suggested).

A hack can be to find out how the DVI output is mapped through the dock connector and get the signals from there, but i think this is to dangerous (can seriously harm the computer).
