Key stuck in Advanced Dock. Is this normal?

Those of you with an Advanced Dock might be able to help me out here, as you know the Dock comes with a set of security keys. I can get the key in to unlock the Dock but when the dock is in the unlocked mode the key will not come out, is there a trick or do they all do this?

If it is by design then it is a bad one, if you lose the key then your dock is locked forever.

Hi

sry, but i don't understand your problem.

Any locked door stays locked if you loose the key
because the door doesn't know if you loose it or if you never had one.
Thats the same with the docking station.

just let the key in the docking station and you won't get any problems :P

That's been how it works since at least the T22 that I used.

There's a reason there are 2 keys, you keep 1 in a secure place in case you lost the first set.

My problem is simple, I never want the dock locked and do not want to have to remember where the key is if I take it out. Also, I want the key out as I do not want it to scratch the nice antique shelf unit is is next to if I inadvertantly move the dock.

I have never had an advanced dock on any of my previous IBM laptops, just simple port replicators so never had the expereince with keys in a dock before.

Anyway, not to worry, if this is normal I will find a way around it, I will likely open it up and break the lcok so that it can never lock and then remove or break the key off in the lock.

If I'm understanding correctly, you want the dock to remain unlocked at all times, but if you have it unlocked, then the key stays inside the lock. I have no idea if this is normal, as I don't have an advanced dock, but the best solution I can think of is to get a keyring or one of those beady things that locks together in a ring (actually, a string would work too) and find a place on the advance dock where you can tie it on. Of course, not having an advanced dock, I have no idea if this will work or not, but hopefully that helps!

Edit: You would still have to leave the dock locked, but at least the key is right near it every time. Hopefully you can tie it somewhere near the lock so you wouldn't have to untie it to unlock it.
