Hi,

I ordered a Thinkpad T60 -- configuration code 2623KEU -- and ordered it with a T5600 Core 2 Duo 1.83GHZ processor. I received my Thinkpad yesterday and immediately noticed a an "Intel Centrino Duo" sticker on the laptop and upon looking at the packing list noticed that it said: "Intel Core Duo proc. T5600"

I haven't yet had time to boot up the computer and check, but I'm starting to worry that they gave me a Core Duo processor instead of the Core 2 Duo 1.83ghz that I ordered.

Is the "Centrino Duo" sticker misleading? Several of my friends' laptops, for example, have stickers that say "Core 2 Duo", so that's got me confused.

At any rate, I'll figure this out -- hopefully its got the Core 2 Duo and I won't have to send it back for replacement, but was just wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

You have the time to look at the tiny sticker, you have to time to post your question but you don't have the time to just push the powerbutton and look witch cpu the bios displays?

But you can stop worring, mine has also just the Centrino Duo Sticker on it and T5600 ist a Core 2 Duo.

Well, I picked up the laptop from my parents' house, opened the box for about 5 minutes and then headed back up to school.

I am on the job at the library sitting at a computer, so I figured I'd ask...once I get back to my apartment, I'm going to have a look...

Both Core Duo and Core 2 Duo systems with the Intel Wireless card are marketed as Centrino Duo. There's no such thing as Centrino 2 Duo.

Intel just recently added the Centrino Duo tag to machines that have the Core2Duo, and their chipset, wifi technology. I was talking to Intel the other day and they are sort of putting that term back in the forefront, and soon, depending on the model you may see Intel Centrino Duo Pro.... for laptops that have some sort of vPro (limited) functionality.

This @#$!#@$ is all very confusing!

Centrino is a marketing term of Intel's. The clasic Centrino was a Pentium M, the Intel chipset, and the Intel wireless card. There are claims of better battery life through power management. The Centrino Duo is the same thing, but has the Duo Core technology. Basically either Core Duo or Core2Duo. You understand the difference between the 2 architectures.

As an aside, if you get a TP with the TP/formerly IBM/Atheros wifi card then it won't have a Centrino tag on it.

If your laptop came with with intel wireless that means they gave you the correct one bacause centrino is part of the wireless part of intel that make the family chipset to work together.

If your laptop came with Atheros wireless card or best known as Thinkpad wireless card then start to worry about it .

Not all the computer comes with the Core 2 Duo stickers mine is a core2duo and came with the centrino duo sticker so that's the difference i don't know why intel did not modified these stickers for centrino systems but is kinda strange but normal.

Centrino Duo = PLATFORM
- Intel Core Duo or Core 2 Duo CPU
- Intel Chipset
- Intel Wireless card

If ANY of the above are missing, you DO NOT get a Centrino sticker.


Centrino = marketing. There is nothing really important about it.
