2nd HD from T23 for my new T60? What 2nd HD adapter to buy?

#1 Post by sparrowhawk » Mon Apr 02, 2007 12:12 pm

I made the mistake of buying a new 2nd HDD ultrabay adapter for my new T60 without realizing the fact that the design of laptop hard drives and their connectors have changed since the the days of my old T23. Oops... the old HD does not fit the new adapter I bought.

Fortunately newegg.com, where I bought it, will exchange it for me. I just need to know is what 2nd HDD adapter to get.

What model number adapter do I need? The Google search I was trying to do didn't work.

Here's a rose for anyone who can help... :)

Thanks in advance. :D

T23 have P-ATA hard drives, T60 S-ATA.
The adapter for a P-ATA hard drive is 41U3148, but be carefull, some T23s were delivered with 12,5mm height hard drives - these will not fit in a T60. The hard drive must be max 9mm ih height.
T61p 6460-67G; 15,4 WSXGA+ W7P x64, no hairdryer.
T43p 2668-G2G, 14,1 SXGA+, XP Pro, internal hairdryer
T23 2647-9LG, 14,1 SXGA+, XP Pro, no hairdryer

Double-checking...

According to http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/cont ... de=41U3148 Lenovo does not mention the T60 on that 2nd HDD product page. I assume that it's kinda a slipup on their part, or something. Clarification?

For the record, here is a page describing my exact drive from my T23:

http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/d ... fspec.html
Same thing, different page:
http://www.netcomdirect.com/hidk30at2942.html

If you see any problems with this particular drive regaring mating it with the 2nd HDD adapter you recommend, please let me know. :)

Much appreciated! :)

This has been previously discussed on the forum:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=34898

To sumarize:
1. Both SATA and PATA (41U3148 -- PATA, 40Y8725 -- SATA) ultrabay slim adapters work on the T60. (make sure you get one with the flat bezel)
2. Only the SATA adapter is officially supported by Lenovo.

I hang out on the forums on geocaching.com... that kind of reference to a previous discussion is called a "Markwell" over there because some guy named Markwell was constantly doing those kinds of previous-discussion reference links for folks. 8)

Thanks for the Markwell. 8)

I look forward to any other opinions, confirmations, etc. anyone wants to toss in... all thoughts on this subject are appreciated. :)

Nice moniker :) I posted that thread because I was the OP there and I remembered it. 3-4 people have confirmed there that both are usable on a T60. But finally I took the easy way out and got a USB enclosure, it was a far cheaper solution :)
