new t60 on order: should I upgrade to NEW processor?

#1 Post by floete » Wed Apr 04, 2007 12:27 pm

i probably have a few days left to decide if i want to put a hold on my new T60 and upgrade the processor.

what i'm getting now is:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T5500 (1.66GHz, 2MB L2, 667MHz FSB)

What i could get now is:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0GHz, 4MB L2, 667MHz FSB) [add $140.00 $90.00] Save $50 during our upgrade sale!

so, the upgrade would cost me another $90. i just do word processing and internet stuff, no heavy graphics or games. am i just fine where i am, or would there be some reason to step up a notch?

If thats really all you do, then you should be absolutely fine with what you have. If you wanted to do gaming, you would pretty much need to get a model with an x1400 or v5250 graphics card. I have a 2.0Ghz chip, but I also run MS Flightsim and Battlefield 2 on this laptop.

I dont know what you have now, but dual core processors (regardless of the speed) really step up the whole computer. Your desktop will seem alot faster, as the processor isn't maxed out all the time.
