Slower network w/ lid closed?

#1 Post by shadowwyvern » Wed Apr 04, 2007 9:20 pm

I was running a file transfer to a friend's machine (over a gigabit switch), with the lid shut, and when I opened it to do something, my friend noticed a huge speed boost. I have told Power Manager to do nothing on lid close, but is there some other power management option I need to look at? Or was this "test" just not valid?

Thanks.

I know the above post is a few years old, but I've been noticing a similar problem on my T60p.

I started an overnight 3-D render which I calculated would be done when I got up the next day. I set the power manager for "maximum performance" and closed the lid as I normally do to protect the machine. When I checked it the next morning, it was only half done, and showed that the frames had been taking 2 minutes to render. But as soon as I opened the lid, the frames started taking one minute to render.

I've carefully checked the power manager settings, and I don't see anything indicating that it should slow down when I close the lid. I couldn't find anything on Google except for the above post. This is weird, any ideas?

Thanks! -MG.

Connect an external monitor and see what changes when you open the lid. Use a simple utility like coretemp to see CPU speed.
