My friends have T43 and T30 and both their internal speakers are louder and sounds lots better than my T60.
So the new speakers getting smaller? or are they just lower quality?
What do u think?
Thanks!

You probably just haven't turned the volume all the way up. Remember that you can adjust the volume through:
1) the physical buttons near the LCD,
2) the "Volume Control" slider within "Volume Control", and
3) the "Wave" slider within "Volume Control".
Many people often forget about "1".

I would second this point as well - the speakers on my T60p seem much weaker than on my T41p.

I also noticed the speakers in my X31 seem to be better than those in my T60. The T60 internal speakers seem smaller and less clear than those in either of my X31 thinkpads.

The T60 non-widescreen's speakers fire forward under the palm rest - if you block that area they will sound more muffled.
The T60 widescreen speakers are located between the keyboard and the screen and appear to be the same speakers that are in the Z series. They don't sound quite as good as the Z series, possibly because the grill over the speakers is thicker and blocks more of the sound. They sound better than the speakers on the 4:3 T60's that had the speakers in the front of the unit. They have more treble and also more spaciousness as the sound field spreads out over the keyboard.

The speakers' placed in the bottom of the laptop below the palm rests are not a good excuse for the poorer sound quality of the T60 versions compares to the older versions. My friends laptops also have their speakers at the same spots. I figured they might have better sound because their speakers are bigger. But I really doubt that.

The speakers in my 14" T60 are not as good as those on my T42, but they are still very adequate for their main purpose (I use my machine for business, not for gaming or movies, so when I need presentation quality sound I use external speakers along with a projector, and the rest is mostly sound effects, Skype, etc.).
I would say that the loudness is also a little weaker (e.g. marginal for GPS navigation with voice) than on the T42.
This being said, because of the way the T60 speakers fire downward and toward the front, the quality you will get will depend largely on the surface they are facing.
