LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
@seiyafan:
You'll have problems with *any* screen that doesn't have a proper EDID. And the issues might be far more serious than a screen which doesn't display anything...
Stick with LCDs that already have a FRU number unless you know:
a) What manufacturer the screen was specified for or the exact pinout
b) How to flash the EDID
BTW, I'm very skeptical about the Hydis from your first link. Unlike the UXGA version, these are *very* rare screens and next to impossible to find...
My experiences only.

Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
Thank you so much for your prompt reply! I gotta say I need to do more research before risking giving my money away. So the key thing here is that I must buy genuine lenovo screens (with exact FRU number), right?ajkula66 wrote:@seiyafan:

I have contacted one vendor online that sell genuine Lenovo LCD, however I hesitated before they said it was refurbished. Does it that it could potentially have deal pixels and/or ageing backlight?
Does anyone know any place to get genuine, BRAND-NEW Flexview LCDs?
thanks again!
Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
The only place that I'm aware of sells Hydis NOS UXGA screens only and has been mentioned in this thread a zillion times.
Even a brand new screen can have dead pixels, dust specs, hair particles...I've seen all of these.
I'd absolutely love for someone to explain to me what "refurbishing" a LCD entails...in my book it's BS, plain and simple.

I would love to get that genuine BOE UXGA screen from that ebay place too!
Maybe I will put up with the higher res. LOL!

Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
If my T60p came with LG, will I run into issues if I replace with Hydis? (if it has the lenovo FRU on it)
Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
I agree, but to try to clarify, I'd consider a screen pulled from a laptop with a dead system board to be "used", and that same screen that was then connected to a working laptop to confirm that it does indeed work, to be "refurbished".I'd absolutely love for someone to explain to me what "refurbishing" a LCD entails...
That's my own definition. I only like to sell used parts if they are well tested, but unfortunatly this requires time, so I'm not going to pull a part, install it in a system and let it run for a week then sell that part for $10. It's just way to much work to fully test a part, which is why the majority of used ebay parts being sold are simply pulled (untested) parts.
Caveat emptor

Understood, but that just goes to show how different people understand the same term - differently.I'd consider a screen pulled from a laptop with a dead system board to be "used", and that same screen that was then connected to a working laptop to confirm that it does indeed work, to be "refurbished".

No. Your only "issue" would be having a much nicer display.seiyafan wrote:If my T60p came with LG, will I run into issues if I replace with Hydis? (if it has the lenovo FRU on it)
Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
This might be a dumb question, but I have a 15.4" T61 6459-CTO with what appears to be a WXGA and I'm looking to upgrade. I've posted in a new thread as well, but thought here might be more appropriate. Essentially does the fact that Type 6459-CTO is listed under IBM/Lenovo's service parts pages for WXGA, WSXGA+, and WUXGA with identical cable assemblies for all 3 mean that I can just swap out the LCD panel itself to upgrade or is there something else I need to look at before I make any kind of decision to buy a new LCD? Link to my previous post is below.

Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
You can just swap the panel, the same LCD cable and inverter will work with any resolution panel. You should use a Lenovo panel since proper EDID information (panel firmware) is required to set the resolution.thinkbui wrote:Essentially does the fact that Type 6459-CTO is listed under IBM/Lenovo's service parts pages for WXGA, WSXGA+, and WUXGA with identical cable assemblies for all 3 mean that I can just swap out the LCD panel itself to upgrade or is there something else I need to look at before I make any kind of decision to buy a new LCD?

Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
Sorry for the repost but I need some help.
OK, Finally got a T60p with quite good extras.
Anyway previously it has gotten an 15" (1600x1200) IPS screen which is not working.
Could I replace it with and IPS screen from T43 - 15" 1400x1050, with the chip mod adviced in the other thread.
the exact numbers of the "new" screen are
IDTech N150P3-L01 15" 1400x1050 IPS.

Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
Hi,
I was the lucky owner of a T60p with a IPS screen. I use past because my thinkpad was stolen in a train some monthes ago. Now, I'm using my old R32, but of course I'd like to buy a new laptop, probably a X220. Anyway I'd like to have a 15'' to use it at home and I'm looking to find a used or refurbished T60p.
Well, as on ebay I found a T60p 15'' SXGA with ATI 256MB in mint condition, I'd like to buy it. Looking on the photo I saw that the model number is 2007-CTO. I looked for it on the Lenovo site but they say that it's a "Configure-To-Order system" and there are not more details. (They also say it's a T60, even if on the item it's printed T60p: something of similar happened with my stolen thinkpad: I bought it as a T60, but at the end of the day was a T60p). Now, according to the list published on thinkwiki a such screen should be a IPS one, but of course I'd like to be sure before buying the laptop.
Is there anyone able to help me?
Thank you very much and best regard.

@T60:
Any 15" SXGA+ screen should be an IPS one on the T60/p series, presuming it wasn't changed.
Happy hunting.

hello,
Big challenge on my part.
I've got a T60 2007-5DG with XGA display and a non functional R60 9461-DXG with SXGA+ display.
As far as the service manuals go, the LCD panel FRUs are not similar and I don't have the guts to go digging through both of the notebooks before doing some research.
Anybody tried this before?

I put a UXGA panel (with another FRU) inside a T60 with a former SXGA+ panel. The displays within the 60 series are all compatible.danX wrote:hello,

Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
It's a straight swap: in a T60 both XGA and SXGA+ use the same cable/inverter.
So just take the LCD out of the lid from the R60, and put it in the T60 lid.
And you could put the T60 LCD in the R60 without any problems also.
(Just a shame that the lids themselves are different, otherwise, you could swap the whole lid!)
HMM for T60: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail. ... MIGR-62733
HMM for R60: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail. ... MIGR-64200
Be careful when you remove the bezels, they may be glued to the metal edge of the LCD.
To swap both, you'd need a good hour.

Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
As it is my first post on this board - hello, world
I bought recently a 2637-AB6 with few larger spots on LCD (SXGA+ FlexView). I thought I would be able to live with that but, as I cannot, I'm thinking about replacing it with UXGA screen. I found a refurbished one at a local ebay competitor and just wanted to make sure - from what I understand the PN 13N7076 will work "out-of-the-box" with my NB, the incompatibile T42 screen has a different PN (92P6683), am I right?
Sorry for asking a question which was possibly resolved earlier but I want to make sure it will work OK.
Thanks in advance
