I gave the LED-conversion a try ...

The led lamps from the damaged display were glued to a metal 'reflector' and it was impossible to seperate them without breaking something so I had to cut the plastic frame and replace both ccfl and reflector with the one from the led display. The result is ok, the screen is bright and evenly lit and no more need to compensate for a yellow tint. Even my Sony X-Black now seems a bit yellowish when compared. The only fault is a small 'bleeding' of light at the bottom, just above the leds, I think it is possible o fix that but its rather small so I will leave it as it is. 'Only' the soldering remains and will probably be the hardest part since everything is really tiny and I have never done any soldering before.

I just got a 15" flex view

Very nice.

I do wonder though: is it CCFL or LED? It seems vaguely LED-ish to me.

All T6x series shipped with CCFL panels only.

Hi,
Iv'e just bought a replacement screen (refurb, grade A) to replace the dull LG Phillips SXGA 1400 x 1050 flexview in my 15'' T60 from a UK seller (best left nameless). The replacement panel was advertised as UXGA 1600 x 1200 but I've put it in and I only get 1400 x 1050 resolution. The screen is marked IBM ITSX95E but there is no FRU or other IBM identifiers, other markings are BL P/N 07K6830 and BL EC F78952D. On the plus side the screen is clean and works well and it's brighter and whiter than the old LG Phillips unit that it replaced. On the minus side it's not the advertised resolution so I am somewhat disappointed.

Can anybody give me more details on the replacement screen I received before I decide if I should keep it or not (eg. is it an IPS/flexview unit, led or cfl backlight, manufacturer etc).

thanks, Eric

What you got is an IDTech ITSX95E SXGA+ screen with 1400x1050 resolution and CCFL backlight. It is not IPS.
The 07K6830 is an IBM number, but that screen is normally used in Dell and HP laptops AFAIK.
It must obviously have a proper EDID in it, otherwise it wouldn't work in your T60.

Darn, I JUST took the time to pull apart my Frankenpad to check the inverter FRU, find that it is a 41W1012. RBS, will do you think that there will be more conversions available someday, or are you done providing that service?

Just out of curiosity, is there a "best" inverter board that I could look for?

If I can find more of those LCDs, I would reinstate that LED service.
Until then, the limited stock that I have left will be used exclusively to build FrankenPads.

I'm not sure if there is a 'best' inverter for these panels, but the only 'workable' ones for my conversion are:
The Board Room wrote:preferably one with P/N or FRU 13R1014 / 13R1015, made by Sumida.
We now also accept inverters with P/N or FRU: 42T0078 / 42T0079 or 41W1012 / 39T5658.
Both these inverters are made by Hitachi and may have the marking INVC753.

I recently bought a T500 that previous owner replaced the LCD with ancient, manufactured in 2003, WUXGA made by Sharp. The model is LQ154M1LW02 and it was pulled from Dell Inspiron 8600 (or may be Dell Precision M60). Though I am a fan of Flexview LCD, I have to say that this Sharp's one is quite good, especially in term of vertical viewing angle.

T60 upgrade from XGA to SXGA+

#339 Post by quickquestion » Wed May 01, 2013 7:40 pm

I want to upgrade my XGA 15" T60 to SXGA+ IPS panel, do I need any inverters, any piece of hardware, or should it just fit, like a normal replacement?

The SXGA+ IPS panel will come from another T60.

given the same initial screen size it SHOULD fit..
be aware that a 15 inch will not fit in place of a 14 inch..
but that should be pretty obvious.. :)

You could swap the screen assembly (assuming both are 15"), inverter, bezel and all and be done with it. Very simple swap too.

I was going to create a new thread for this question, but I see there are many screen questions being answered here, so I'll ask here.

Also, this is my first post. I've been lurking for a while, and this forum has been very helpful so far.

I have a T60 1952-AP2 (With Bluetooth) model with an XGA screen. I'd like to up this to either an SXGA+ or UXGA panel.
According to the Lenovo parts list on their website ( http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product ... PD014182#6 ), I need both the LCD panel (SXGA+ FRU : 13N7078)/(UXGA FRU : 13N7076) and the inverter card (FRU : 42T0079). The list calls for the same LCD Cable (FRU : 91P6985) for all resolutions, so I shouldn't need that.

My question is, am I correct in what I need to buy?
Also, anyone have a recommended seller for these panels?

Thank you in advance.

Augustus - Welcome to the forum :thumbs-UP:

Your research is spot on - as you correctly stated the recommended T60 15.0" 4:3 IPS LCD Panels are SXGA+ FRU:13N7078 & UXGA FRU:13N7076 & the correct inverter card (for these panels) is FRU: 42T0079 - Your existing LCD cable is fully compatible with both these panels.

As for getting hold of the above panels - Place a WTB (Want-to-buy) ad in this forums marketplace - Good luck with your search

Well, as my SXGA+ display was getting dimmer and slightly more yellow and somehow the amount of dust between the layers kept increasing... (?) I decided to bite the bullet and buy a Boe-Hydis HV150UX1-100 from cgsplcd on ebay. (As I live in New Zealand I miss out on a lot of things that others take for granted - if I had a dollar for every time I saw something I really wanted that was 'shipping to continental USA only'.....)

Excellent delivery service! Four working days from ordering to delivery. I fitted the screen using the existing inverter (didn't note the part number dammit!) and it seems pristine, as far as I can tell there's not a pixel that's not doing what it should. Also I'm running it on 4 out of 7 brightness, I'd been running the old display at 7 for three years. However.....

It seems *soooo* blue-white, my eyes almost feel like I'm in a nightclub with UV lighting! I'm fairly sure that it's not just a reaction to having used a yellowing display for so long as I also have a couple of 20" UXGA desktop monitor (Dell 2007FPb - the IPS version) and they're fine (great actually). My SXGA+ was quite yellow compared with the Dells but now the UXGA is *very* blue in comparison. I'd read the Boe-Hydis' were bluish but I wasn't prepared for this - considering I have two T43ps and a T42p with UXGA that are awesome - surely one of those is a BH?

Will the blue tone-down over time? I guess my eyes will get used to it to a degree but I don't think that's good for them is it? (Already I'm finding I need a second or two for my eyes to adjust when I look away from the screen.) Is there any way I can adjust it to compensate? I played with CCC but didn't find anything that made much difference. It's really nice having the extra screen real estate on the T60 - my every day machine. (I didn't want to be bothered trying 'the solder on a chip and flash it' method or I'd have used one of the four UXGA FlexViews I have on T42/43ps - they're all *far* nicer colour rendition than this screen though.)

I hope that it just needs a 'burn-in', that it'll come right in a week or so. Ever the optimist - the $$$ that it cost my credit card company was my discretionary spend money for.... At least the rest of 2013, maybe some of 2014 too!

Meanwhile I'll turn off the screen-saver and leave it running for a couple days. <fingers crossed>

Cheers.

P.S. Do I remember right? Did I read that an Intel-graphics T60 will run UXGA? I have one in a 14" chassis and might be forced to do a transplant if so. Even with PowerPlay set to as low as possible (and the cooler modded and AS5 used) the GPU is *much* hotter than the CPU and keeps the fan running all the time. I undervolt the CPU using Notebook Hardware Control (NHC). In fact that's what keeps me using XP - the fact that I can't get NHC to behave with W7. :(

(I swapped my original T7400 with this T7400 that came out of a Sony Viao I was working on for a friend - it's almost ULV. He didn't undervolt so I fixed his laptop 'free' other than swapping CPUs. This CPU will run rock-stable at minimum voltage, 0.95v on every 'step' except the highest and even that, 2.16GHz, still runs under one volt. Been stable for three years like this, I have recently set it to not step up to 13X, 12X / 2GHz is plenty of power for my modest requirements - especially when the CPU will do it at 0.95v.) :D

All T60 mobos are capable of running XGA/SXGA+/UXGA/QXGA.
14.1" and 15" use the same mobos, but the 15" also has an interposer board to extend space between mobo and Ultrabay.
Most, if not all UXGA screens in a T4x were made by IDTech.
The 'coolness' of the BoeHydis can be modified by applying color/monitor profiles.

Hi RBS. Thanks for the reply.
RealBlackStuff wrote:All T60 mobos are capable of running XGA/SXGA+/UXGA/QXGA.
Cheers. I was sure I read that somewhere here ages ago but after spending nearly two hours looking for it the other day I gave up. It's something that you really need to be sure of before going to the trouble of swapping mobos.
RealBlackStuff wrote:14.1" and 15" use the same mobos, but the 15" also has an interposer board to extend space between mobo and Ultrabay.
Yep, thanks. I've switched mobos between sizes before. I knew that part of it wouldn't be an issue. Originally, before I read about T60 Intel being UXGA capable (and because I knew that the T43 Intel wasn't and I assumed.... ) I bought a 14" X1300 T60 to use that mobo. I hoped that the lesser GPU would run cooler. Then I read that I could use an Intel board (and the X1300 wasn't much cooler anyway) so sold I it on and bought an Intel 14". However I didn't bookmark the thread and so was unable to check the.... reliability of the poster/s involved.
RealBlackStuff wrote:Most, if not all UXGA screens in a T4x were made by IDTech.
Ahhh, I wasn't completely sure on that. So the BH UXGA are only to be found on T60s then?
RealBlackStuff wrote:The 'coolness' of the BoeHydis can be modified by applying color/monitor profiles.
I hoped as much, and hoped it could be done with the (already installed) Catalyst Control Centre - but I couldn't find a way yesterday.
Thanks for that link. It seems that I have quite a bit of learning to do to correct this, as you put it; "coolness". LOL, it's winter here and it actually makes me feel colder using it. The colour of the 'whites' are reminiscent of icebergs.

Thanks again. If I wasn't in NZ I would have jumped on one of those LED panels and inverter mods that The Boardroom were doing so fast. I have a friend in NYC (who's actually coming here for a month to visit, arriving 6th June) and briefly considered sending an inverter to him to get it modded to go with the panel - and then have him ship it all back to me but by the time I read about them there were already limited quantities. :|

I saw that you gave a link to an Asian supplier of LED kits for T60s a while back. Do you have experience with those? Are they any good? (As I'm anti short-screen and am hoping that my trusty T60 (complete with stock of spares, running a Seagate Momentus XT ST750LX003 - the last of the Seagate Hybrids that run at 7,200 rpm and use Intel SLC NAND and have 3rd generation caching algorithms) will last a good long time yet I might stretch the debt a bit further before they disappear from the market.)

Hmmm, I should get a spare XT ST750LX003 as well......

Best regards,
Shaun.

I have one LED Hydis displays here and want to put it in my Frankenpad now.
Can anybody give me a source where I can buy the required LCD Connectors (30pin LVDS and 14pin)?
I have been searching all in Hong Kong and Taiwan, but it seems quite difficult to find the right model.

I will be posting details for these parts in a day or 2 on my website-page http://theboardroom.info/led_mod.htm
Don't enjoy too early though!
The last supplier was an absolutely rotten rip-off joint in Singapore, and they shipped absolutely rotten quality through their absolutely rotten Chinese manufacturing contact!
I have stopped doing LED-mods for other people, because of these absolutely rotten parts.
I have some original, good parts left over, which will be exclusively used on a few FrankenPads that will be built by me in the near future.
After that? I don't give a 4-letter swearword that gets removed by the forum-software. Starts with an s and ends with the opposite of miss!

I am only looking for the tiny LVDS 30 pins and 14 pins connectors. These are USD 10ct pieces and industrial standard. Unfortunately all sources I know have minimum order quantities of 500-1000 pieces. :(

If you locate a supply would you be so good as to put one of each in an envelope and send them to me in New Zealand? I will be deeply indebted to you and prepared to repay the favour in any way that I can. Oh, perhaps two of each if possible as I might have to attempt to remotely mod another machine also (details below). I've had no luck sourcing the connectors here - although I've only been looking this morning and don't know what they're called exactly - even so the chances look bleak.

I have been struggling to get the finances to do this mod myself. I finally managed to get an LED UXGA panel sourced from Tuus through a (new) member in NYC who bought two and sent one on to me. (The plan being that he'd also do the mod later on the really nice T60 he has - [2007-7KU] - that used to be my backup machine - perhaps with input from me depending on how my experience went) While I was waiting for the panel to arrive I managed to source an inverter of the kind that RBS requires for modding and making the harness - which sadly wasn't cheap and left me severely low on funds....

Then NZ customs held up the package that contained the panel for ages, sending me an invoice for NZ$180 for import duty and sales tax - and when I finally took delivery it appears the panel has been tampered with - the steel down half of one side is bent and away from the little plastic clips - as well as there being a light bruise or scuff mark on the surface of the panel. They deny all responsibility or consequences of searches - and even refuse to confirm that they opened that panel. My friend in NYC packed it really well - to the extent that the parcel cost US$85 to send via USPS. However it's obvious that the package at least has been opened - possibly twice - and it wasn't packed in the same way that he described it when it got to me and there is tape over cut tape over cut tape....

Now RBS / The Board Room is no longer doing the mods (not that I'll have the funds for a while anyway, I've been trying to save up - the required form of international payment had a hefty surcharge also) and I'm not even sure that the panel is going to be worth fitting and spending more money on - I can't test it!

Consequently I'd really appreciate a couple of connectors (and maybe even instructions on where to wire the LED source wires to the inverter?). I've already sunk all of my spare money for the next six months+ into this project - I'd hate to sink even more into it getting the connectors / 'harness' and the inverter modded (even if I could...) only to find the panel's duff. :flame:

PMs on the subject welcome. :??:

That approach requires soldering each wire one by one...not what beeblebrox was looking for...

RBS had developed a *very* clean and sturdy solution, but unfortunately had to rely on cables custom built in Far East and the QC just went haywire on these...

Apology for resurrecting the Post............................

After many Years of replacing the CCFL of 2008HA8 LG Philips 15" SXGA+ IPS panel, it has lost its "sparkle".
Had always wanted to purchase another BOE-Hydis HV150UX1-100 which I fitted into my 2007WUK, it seemed to be out of stock everywhere I searched........................until:-

http://bit.ly/1xINi7U

I was a little sceptical as I had believed the -100 were no longer available as all the Sellers has -101 made compatible to work.
To my delight , I received exactly what I had ordered.
After fitting, the colours were brilliant and not one dead pixel.
It arrived ahead of schedule with no Customs Charges...............approximately half the cost of purchase compared to my 2007WUK panel.

Pics are here:- http://lnv.gy/1ucjJNg as I'm having all sorts of problems resizing and uploading.
Often outspoken, please forgive any cause for offense.
Thank you all for reading.

Good to hear that there is possibly another alternative source for these (now rare?) panels - thanks for sharing :thumbs-UP:

Sorry, but what is the difference between the -100 and the -101?

You need to flash the EDID on -101 in order for it to work on a T60/p. Identical otherwise from what I am to understand.

I'm using a -101 in this machine that I bought from an ebay seller quoted in a thread on these forums and it just works - no EDID flashing involved. Although that said it may have been pre-flashed as it was sold as being suitable for ThinkPads.
cgsplcd was the seller and I bought from him due to recommendations from other members. However it seems he's no longer active on ebay.

I also invested in one of the LED backlit UXGA BOE-Hydis panels but by the time I got it RBS had stopped doing the mods so it's sitting in a drawer collecting dust. :-?

Cheers,
Shaun.

I contacted the seller and these are used, not new old stock.
