Advanced Dock - Cut the fans

I know there is another thread on the advanced dock, but I am hoping to cast this question to a wider audience. I have read all the threads on this forum about this and except for two people, there is not much information on cutting the fans.

Have you cut the fan or fans on the advanced dock? If so, what are your experiences.

The main fan was VERY loud, the expansion port fan less so, but I can still hear it two rooms away. It's also a high pitch and varies it's speed with display load, so it can also be distracting while using it.

I just cut the main fan and it seems fine. I would like to cut the fan in the expansion bay, but I have a NVIDIA GeFORCE 7600GS installed (no fan).

Will the unit overheat? Will the card overheat?

Can the leads be "snipped" and reconnected w/o opening the unit?

Inside the expansion bay, you don't have to cut any wires. There is a power plug that you can yank out to cut power to the fan.

I did this and have had no problems with three different cards I've had running in the bay (currently a v5200 card, since I'm running Vista on a T60p). The 7600GS card I ran in there for about a year didn't have a fan, just a heat sink, again - no problems. But I do leave the cover off the expansion bay to allow heat to escape. I suggest that you do the same.
