Uninstalled CSS, so what is this CSSauth? And what is ACS?

Subsequent to uninstalling CSS, I installed Zonealarm Free, the latest version of version 6 I found. Zonealarm just alerted me that CSSauth is requesting internet access. What is that?

Something called ACS is also trying to access the internet. What is that?

Whoa! I just got this message:

----------------------------------------------------
Client Security Solution
----------------------------------------------------

There was a problem connecting to a critical service. It is possible that anti-virus software is blocking the connection. Also, check to make sure the TPM device driver is installed and enabled.

OK

----------------------------------------------------

But I uninstalled CSS! :?

After uninstalling the Symantec stuff (all except Liveupdate, and I guess I'll uninstall that shortly), I installed Zonealarm and AVG Free 7.5

Edit: And TPM is ? I forget...

TPM is Trusted Platform Module. It is the security chip on the mobo. Even if you don't have CSS installed, there are other services running that check the TPM that are tied to the ThinkVantage tools.

You sound like you're quite new at using firewall.

ACS is Atheros Wireless LAN.

I've used Zonealarm (on desktops) for several years. I allowed access on a one time basis contingent on finding out it was a legitimate utility/program requesting access. Being the LAN chip, it would evidently be that. Acronymfinder had nothing related to this. Thanks for the info.

They might have picked something more informative than ACS to ID this thing.

So, what is cssauth.exe? Zonealarm wants to know if I want to allow it to access the Internet, either on a onetime basis or always. I uninstalled CSS. What is going on here? Thanks for replies.

I can't answer for what it is, but granting it access (or blocking it for that matter) shouldn't have any effect. I am sure someone more knowledgeable about this will be able to chime in soon.

Thanks.

Can someone tell me what the return address is now for subscribed threads? I'm not getting emails, so I've got to assume that my spam blocker has it blacklisted. TIA.
