Problem ejecting with Advanced Mini-Dock

#1 Post by bri » Thu Apr 12, 2007 12:32 pm

When I hit the dock's button or use EasyEject to undock, almost always I get this message:

You cannot eject your computer because one of the devices in the docking station, 'Printer Port (LPT1)', cannot be stopped because a program is still accessing it.

This happens when no printer is plugged in (use a USB printer) and no programs are running.

Another issue is, when docking in standby mode, sometimes the connection shorts out and turns off the thinkpad. Is the thinkpad supposed to be completely off when docking?

For your second issue, see the 5th "tweak" in the first post here:

I had the same problem on the Advanced Mini Dock. I originally thought it was a gadget on the sidebar accessing that port for monitoring. But ever since I unchecked iTunes and Quicktime from the startup tab in msconfig the problem has since gone away. Might work for you.

As far as the shorting when connecting to the dock, you'll have to get those conductive caps discussed elsewhere on this forum. I have noticed much less problems with them.

The pin caps do fix the short off problem so it's worthwhile to make the support call.

Does LPT1 actually show as installed hardware in Device Manager? My T60p doesn't have a parallel port and one doesn't show even as a virtual.

Are you running any "virtual printer" apps like Acrobat writer or PaperPort or a BlueBeam driver?
T'Pad 600e, 770x, A20p, A21p, A30p, A31p (2653-H3U), T43p (2668-Q2U) & T60p (2623-DDU)...it's an addiction.

LPT1 does show up in device manager, there is a port on the dock. I don't think I have any virtual printers. I have acrobat reader but that doesn't have a printer device. I killed all the ac* services and still get the error.

Have you tried disabling the LPT1 device?

Can't test that right now, seems to be working properly at the moment. Only change is using a different battery which I can't see having an impact. I"ll have to try it later.
