T60 Svchost Bootup Error; Shut Down Hang

For no explained reason my TP Password logger has disappeared, my shut down hangs with "saving personal settings" and my bootup hangs with "svchost.exe application error."
I have restored to a previous day but but that has not fixed the problem.
Would like some thoughts about how to approach this.

Yes I have the exact same problem but with T43p. I'm so curious on how to solve this problem.

Although there could be several explanations, I just ran into this with an error envolving automatic updates (SVCHOST.exe). Microsoft has a patch to fix the problem, or you could just turn of automatic updates and check them manually.
When it happenned to the machine I was working on, I just send the error report and it gave me a link to the patch. It did take several tries to get there and get it downloaded before the computer crashed, but it did fix the problem.

It indicates an exception (= error) in service host during shutdown. I remember something like that was caused by an windows update two years ago but it is already fixed.

Here are the steps I took which seemed to resolve the problem.
I searched for svchost.exe and then renamed it to svchost.bak.
I deleted all svchost prefetch dumps that appeared in my search.
Re-booted into Safe Mode and searched again to find that a new svchost.exe had been created.
I then shutdown and re-started. All is well.
I did this before finding out that one possible source for this problem could be the Windows automatic update. A hotfix is available. See MS Article 932494 for instructions.
