brrmax wrote:Ragtopgeek, So you prefer the 4:3 vs 16:10 aspect ratio for coding? I am looking for a laptop and will be coding in Eclipse using the LCD at times. Normally, it will be attached to an external monitor, but will definitely use it standalone.
Yes I do, but I do have to admit I've never even tried the widescreen ratio, so who knows... However, I primarily code with Cygwin windows (I'm an old-school Linux/Unix developer) and I need more vertical space to fit a sufficient number of lines-of-code. Even with the Eclipse and MS Visual C++ IDEs I have used, I feel like the extra vertical lines due to standard 4:3 ratio give me enough space to have code at top and console/output/debug windows at bottom. So for me, vertical space is paramount, but YMMV. I only use the laptop and do not use an external monitor/LCD.

Additionally, as a developer, I spend considerable time Googling development info, so the extra height means less scrolling due to the vertical nature of Web Pages. I rarely use spreadsheets, one of the supposed major benefits of widescreen.

Well I'm booting the beast up at this moment.
Does have built in Verison.
Don't know if it is CDMA or GSA.
Screen- no bad pixels.
Reminds me of the Screen on the A31P.

Some one want to tell me how to find screen mfg.

Battery had 97 power.

N150U3-L01 N150U3-L04, N150U3-L06, N150U3-L07 and N150U3-L08. And it's sometimes just pure luck what you recieve.

Birger,
You recieved yours already?
Never having owned any A31p, hows the image quality do you think?
Is the backlight even?

Go to this page, enter your serial #, and look up the part # for the LCD in the search box at the top right corner.

bpetterson, please let us know (generally) how the correction curves look. I have been generally impressed that very little correction is needed on the FlexViews, although I was working with the BOE Hydis I think. I'm using the Gretag-MacBeth EyeOne.

I also wanted to correct a misstatement that I made earlier. Lenovo has reversed themselves and allows EPP returns now, although they put through about an 8% price increase at about the same time which stinks.

I found this out because they shipped (and presumably billed me for) two DDUs instead of the one I ordered. They will take it back and pay all shipping charges because this was Lenovo's error, but the salesperson did take time to tell me that EPP models could now be returned at will in the first 30 days as before.

So, is this the same screen as my T42p? Is there any way to tell?

The Spyder Pro 2 did a very nice finishing touch to the screen.
Almost a straight line particully at the top.

I also have the T60P with the 14 inch screen but with the T7600
processor and two gigs of ram.
That was a bear to calibrate the sceen.
But in the end it came out very well.
My intension is to use this with a 21 inch Viewsonic and remote USB keyboard with pointing stick and Wacom tablet.

This one which is'nt as fast but great for viewing
will be for demonstrations of photos.

bpetterson, when you say "not as fast" are you referring to the machine or the screen retrace? I've seen ghosting on a desktop IPS and I would hate to wind up with that. Have you tried any games or 60fps video to see if ghosting is present?

Darren;
The only game if you call it that that I indulge in at times
is Freecell.

What iI was reffering to was a 20mb Nikon Raw File.
To open fully in Nikon NX
The T7600 takes 30 seconds and the newer one with
T2500 takes in excess of 45 seconds.
I do not have 2gb only 1 gb of ram on the new unit.
20mb file does not require more than 1 gb of ram for processing.
It is just the first step. The rest goes super fast.

Birger, thanks for the clarification. That at least gives me hope that ghosting won't be an issue.

Did anyone else receive their system before the weekend and have an opinion?

Ghosting will be present to an extent, but it will only be an issue, if you let it be.

I wish I had mine. It got pushed back again. We left for a camping weekend on Friday. Last I check Thursday night it was scheduled to ship on Monday the 23rd. I just check and now it is the 24th.

How long does it typically take once it is shipped?

Ugh..
Why would anyone buy this? Like always, Lenovo's pricing is idiotic.
For $200 LESS, I can buy a brand NEW T60p widescreen, with the same 1Gb, a 4mb cache Core2 duo, and a slightly faster video card. Why..WHY would anyone buy a refurb that costs MORE than new?? Note that the above is based on employee/friends and family pricing for both. I suspect we don't get the standard 15% discount on refurbs, which may explain it.

As to the quality of the DDU model, and screen, its excellent. This is the exact MTM used by IBM internally for new "developer" model employee thinkpads...for those lucky enough. I know a number of people who have them, and they are all very happy with the screen (and laptop in general).

Of course, the T61 is around the corner...and its worth waiting for, especially the P model!

I ordered it late, about 9:00 pm eastern, on 4/17. It initially showed to ship on the 19th, then it got pushed back to the 23rd. I didn't check it Friday, but that's when it must have got pushed back again to the 24th.

At the same time I also ordered the AC\DC charger 40Y7630. It always had a ship date of the 24th. Maybe they held it for that?

So I guess I'll have to continue to read about how you guys like yours for a little while longer.

Refurb? Really? Where does this wisdom come from? I'd really like to know before I open my box. It wouldn't be the first one that I have sent one back.

So tell us all. Refurb? Where does your insight come from?

Saturday nite I thought that I would play a game of Freecell.

Alas no screen expansion, Fn and Spacebar.
Went to support drivers and download to no avail.
Then I thought of ThinkVantage Productivity Center.
That did not work.
So back to the drivers download site.
Found it 10 mb download.

Thinking of my first Thinkpad when we did this with floppys.
Oh well- I had heard of this program some time around the A30P or A31P time
But my thinking at that time was
If it an't broke don't fix it.

Well I installed it and it did not fix the screen expansion.
So I let the program download all of the upgrades.
About 2GB.
Now it works so I can now see Freecell cards.

So why not do the T60P with the 14 inch screen.
That called for an new bios.
That was a bear to install. Had to shut down and wait and wait and wait-- it finally installed.

And yes the screen is so much better than the 14 inch screen on the other T60P.
So I bought a backup screen for the 15 inch.

Used Acronis Disk Director to make a second partiyion.

Have not clonned a disc yet.

I had all sorts of problems with the 14 inch T60P networking.
Could get out but not in.
After Deleting the Acronis True Image 9.0 that I had used.
The problem evaporated.
So will use the same approach on the 15 inch T60P.

Birger, I'm curious -- why didn't you just purchase a warranty/protection extension (rather than purchase the backup screen)? Are you worried that Lenovo doesn't have enough stock to honor the warranties?

When you say that expansion didn't work, are you referring to Fn-Space not lowering the res or the BIOS not stretching non-native screen resolutions?

Gotcha. FYI: In case this was the cause, you have to install the on-screen display functionality for Fn-Space to work.

Sounds like it might -- one (non-Lenovo) source showed three generations of laptops that can take this display.
