- just stumbled over a review of the 2623DDU with good images of the screen (compared to a Dell Latitude D610):

Clean install? I forgot about that task. Since mine is probably close enough for me to find myself now, I should maybe give this some thought.

Does 'Import Scan' mean it's cleared customs or just getting there?

It probable that the screen described in that review is the Boe-Hydis, not the IDTech which is shipping with these new machines.
Can anyone compare the IDTech display to the Boe-Hydis?

It just means it's still in Customs. Mine was 'Import Scanned' 6 times before being cleared.

Received mine today, Wednesday, April 25. Big step up from A31p. Long time coming. I want to thank the person in Lenovo who found these machines sitting on a pallet somewhere. Nice things do come from big companies sometimes.

Wow, I just found out that there are supposedly no more left. UPS lost my package. Looks like I'm not getting mine after all.

Did anyone here happen to buy multiple units to sell?

hi guys. you've all been very helpful.
just got my t60 from the lenovo outlet, and got the same serial numbers (42T0344 42T0345) for the monitor.
this is just dissapointing that we waited so long (customs) and payed so much, just to be duped collectively like this.

Could they really have moved all 78 units during this time? Could anyone reconfirm that no more are left?

OK, mine arrived this morning (with a second one still in customs). Here are my impressions, especially as compared with my previous model, a 14" SXGA+:
Black levels and color accuracy are fantastic. Anyone coming from a normal TFT will be delighted. I profiled the display and almost no correction was required.
This is also the only laptop display that I've been comfortable setting the desktop color to black. There is virtually no backlight leakage -- beautiful!
Having used the Boe-Hydis (without realizing at the time that it was a Hydis), I don't see a difference between that display and this one.
The text on this screen doesn't
seem any smaller than the text on my 14" SXGA+. I think the improved PQ is making up for increased DPI.
Before I continue, keep in mind that I am going to nit-pick the display. I think most users will be delighted with it, but I want to provide some balance so folks don't think that this is the *perfect* screen.
While color and contrast don't change a lot with a change in viewing angle, the brightness does change. This is much better than a typical TFT because it allows one to work with photographs and color, but there is still a "sweet spot" where the part of the screen perpendicular to your line of sight will be brightest.
BTW: The gorgeous ID Tech SXGA+ 15" screen doesn't have nearly as pronounced a sweet spot. Again, this effect is the same as I have seen on all ThinkPad UXGA FlexView screens that I have used.
On my display, the right edge, especially near the bottom is a little darker than the rest of the display. The only time this is an issue is when the screen is covered in a single color so it doesn't bother me, but I know one user threw a
fit when the corners of his display were darker than the rest of the screen, so I thought it may be important to some.
Ghosting is definitely present, but not as bad as some of the IPS screens I was working with a year ago. If you do a lot of 3D gaming this may well be a concern. It may also be distracting if you watch action movies or sports full-screen. I don't want to exaggerate the problem -- it seems to be present to one degree or another in every FlexView that Lenovo has used -- but it hasn't been completely fixed in this display either.
Scrolling and dragging windows looks the same as on my 14" SXGA+. Not silky smooth, but no problems from ghosting.
Power use seems very reasonable. It draws about one Watt more than my T60p 14" SXGA+ did (max brightness enabled in the BIOS, max brightness setting) and the result is well worth the power use.
The speakers seem a good bit louder than on my 14" T60p. I don't have the luxury of running them side by side for a comparison though.
The included DVD drive does appear to be a dual-layer burner. I don't remember if that was part of the product description or not.
The fan is either louder or runs more than on my 14". The CPU also runs cooler, so I'm not complaining (yet).
The date stamped on the roll-cage is from about a month ago. If this is the date of manufacture of the roll-cage, the laptop was built quite recently.
The keyboard was an ALPS but required a stiffer keypress than the ALPS I was using (also new). While the PN and FRU are the same on both keyboards, the third number on the part sticker (an ALPS PN?) was different. That's all we need -- more variability in the keyboards.
I'll stop there and report back once I've had a chance to run it through its paces for a while. I would love to hear others' impressions of the display as they start arriving on doorsteps today.

O.K. I'm reading the post from darrenf and coming to the conclusion that when my computer shows up tomorrow, the screen won't look dreadful as was onced feared. I then scroll back to read this.
I really don't mind asking you to please, tell us how we were all "duped"?
Edit: Please tell me quick. If I've been duped into ordering this thing, I do not want to compound my stupidity by opening the box that just showed up.

Just started playing with mine. Ditto everything you said on the screen, right down to the "sweet spot" and slight darkening along lower right edge. I haven't tried any video yet, so can't comment on ghosting.
The black is *very* impressive.

Yeah, my LG SXGA+ Flexview has that "sweet spot" too. Have you seen the LG? Can you compare the brightness and color richness/saturation of the IDTech to the LG?

Unfortunately not. The only one I've seen (that I knew the manufacturer of) was the ID Tech. Sorry.

I just qa'd this notebook for the buyer and the display is phenomenal; it has no stuck pixels and extremely even lighting. I can't find at all the slight darkening on the right side of the screen as some have noted in this thread. This is easily the finest display I've seen on a notebook, easily better than the UXGA FV I have on my R50p

. I don't understand at all how someone can feel cheated buying this particular model notebook.

that's good to hear. i'll definetly wait until I get to check it out before considering a BOE swap.

okashira, follow my advice and don't try to understand the scans. They mean nothing and you'll drive yourself batty trying to figure it out. Furthermore, you might see no further activity until 4am and yet the thing is at your door at 10am.
If you really want to know what's up you can call the UPS international customer service number (800-782-7892) and ask them. They seem to have a lot more (and more accurate) information at their disposal.

BTW, what would be the best image to compare on?

I have an LG Flexview on my T42. It has the "sweet spot" for brightness effect, which is very noticeable, although even when off center, the screen is comfortably bright enough (for watching movies, for example). The darkening along the right edge is not present, but there is slight, but noticeable, darkening at the bottom corners (about 0.5cm in length/width). This corner darkening has been reported on IDTech Flexview LCDs too. Don't know about Hydis.

This is good advice. Mine
never indicated that it was "out for delivery" and it just showed up yesterday afternoon. I saw everything that you are seeing when it was in Kentucky. I wouldn't try to make sense of it if I were you.

The Windows desktop "Bliss" and "Autumn" images are good. Bliss has lots of blues and greens, Autumn has nice yellows and oranges.

Yes,
PLEASE DO use the 'autumn' wallpaper that should come with windows... and also the one with the yellow flowers on blue sky background.
