I am trying to install a radioshack serial adapter on my T60, and the install program just crashes... It works on a friend's desktop just fine, and works on an older laptop fine as well. I have disabled both the serial and parallel port in my laptop's bios, but to no avail...

I have four questions for you:
#1-What OS do you run?
#2-You say serial adapter, is this usb to serial?
#3-Does the install program give an error?
#4-Have you tried downloading the drivers offline, and if you can (and they don't work) where are they located so I can try to find an alternative installation route. You may want the serial enabled in the BIOS. It shouldn't prevent driver installation.

Well, I solved the problem. It turns out the two cheap serial adapters i was using were similar enough that the drivers conflicted in. The solution was simple, I swapped the order I was installing them in. I had borrowed them from a friend, who had purchased one before the other, I just followed that order and it worked fine. Horray for cheap hardware!
Thanks for your help. For future refrence, I am running XP Pro, the installer for the second adapter crashed, using the latest drivers off the net. I did not look for new driver for the first adapter, since I got it working before I thought of that.
