First impressions:
I like the new microphone location, but I have to seriously question the relocation of the headphone jack. Looks like something they had to do to find room for everything (like going to one USB on the right side) but it seems like a poor decision.
Speakers have been moved to the right and left of keyboard, a-la-Z-series. Most will like that.
A camera has been integrated into the lid -- handy.
Keyboard looks interchangeable with the T60 & Z-series.
Wireless antennas have been moved from the sides of the lid to the face at the top and left of the display.
Despite the screen appearing as thin as on the 14" T60 (or thinner), the thickness is listed as 1.2" - 1.37" which is .2" thicker than the current 14" T60.
I would love to read more details on the makeup of the lid.
All in all pretty impressive!

I'm not sure that it could be shorter with the current layout. Keep in mind that the Optical and HDD are side-by-side. They also kept the full-size T/Z-series keyboard without compromising the well between the touchpad and trackpoint buttons like they did on the 14"-w Z-series (from what I can tell in photos).perry_78 wrote:The frame along the screen is way too big too

What did they do to the T61!!!
Microphone and headphone ports at the bottom!!! That is a horrible design flaw, especially for those who watch movies with headphones in recliners, that is horrid!
Moving the speakers to the sides is going to make it annoying for the 14" models, but for the 15" and 15.4" WS, that will be great. Too bad they removed the IBM logo from it, but adding the lenovo label to where the lights makes it look strange.
Adding the camera is a nice feature, use it quite a bit with my Macbook. Glad they kept the thinklight, although a backlit keyboard would be interesting too. Perhaps they should add a light to the camera, too.
The new design makes it look more chubby, not as sleak as past thinkpads.
I just hope that this isn't final, and if it is, I am not getting one with those headphone/microphone are one the front, that would be way, way too annoying.

FYI, they've been doing that with previous versions of thinkpads too.DesolataX wrote:Too bad they removed the IBM logo from it, but adding the lenovo label to where the lights makes it look strange.

If there is a large enough order, they would probably consider removing the camera, or they may even make it an optionmajiklantrn wrote:Hmm.. I don't like the look of the T61. Is this design final? Maybe I should order a T60 now.![]()
Also, I hope that camera is optional cause the government won't like that. Thats how Apple screwed itself with the Macbooks.

I don't like it, some how does'nt have that sleek look of the current (and past) T series.

I think we need to have more faith in this article! Remember, Lenovo usually doesn't release all models at once. For example, the SXGA+ option for the X60 tablet came out several months later than the XGA models.sloomy wrote:it can not be true, that they want just offer wide screen models. I hope not.

That's an interesting question and I hope you can tell us the answer in 2009.majiklantrn wrote:Now I'm curious what IBM will use for a laptop, or will we still use Lenovo.

Looks Great. Full hard disk encryption is part of trusted computing initiative and I think initially is supported by Hitachi. All the nice features stay despite the multimedia nonsense, so moving towards multimedia doesn't prevent the advancements in the "right" direction. I'm freeing up some space on the desk for t61p.
Am I missing something? My T41P has a resolution of 1400 x 1050 which would seem to be higher than 1440x900.

Indeed. That's why people who need high-res screens should wait for the 14.1" WSXGA+ T61p.Temetka wrote:Am I missing something? My T41P has a resolution of 1400 x 1050 which would seem to be higher than 1440x900.
