I was going to post this in the Vista forum, but since only T60 have this GPU i figured I will post it here. My Vista automatic update picked up a new driver for the ATI FireGL 5250. The new driver is 8.362.0.0 Date 4/5/07, it did not change my Experience index but i assume it resolves other issues.

P.S. Old driver 8.33.6.0 1/5/07

I would assume it fixes something, but what have you specifically noticed?

I did not notice anything, but I didn't have any problems with the old driver either.

Thanks for posting this! I'm updating now.

PS. Anyone have any luck finding a changelog? It'd be nice to see what they changed.

I received the same update through Windows Update with a FireGL 5200, same driver version. Haven't noticed any differences yet.

I'm running XP Pro (on a v5250).

ThinkVantage System Update did not list a new driver for XP, but Windows Update installed v8.362 today dated 4/5/2007.

Since updating to the new driver my Windows Experience went down.

Pre Update
Windows Aero 4.3
Gaming 4.7

Post Update
Windows Aero 4.2
Gaming 4.6

Also if i lock my computer and come back the secondary monitor keeps reseting itself back to 60hz instead of staying at 75hz. I've still been unable to find a changelog to find out what they fixed.

This is exactly what I have experianced. Plus the secondary monitor cannot hold their relative position other than the original right to the main monitor.

I've always worked from the assumption that it's never a good idea to install driver updates posted on Windows Update, thus do so only via the manufacturer--i.e. Lenovo's website or SystemUpdate;

For example, with WindowsUpate (Vista) I see updates for the wireless card and a couple other components, but I haven't touched them;

how do others approach system driver updates?

I go the same route, until IBM/Lenovo stops updating the drivers for a given model, which happens some time after it is no longer available for sale.

Then I'll update fro the hardware manufacturer site, or Windows Update as a last resort. But only if there is a problem, or a promised improvement of some kind. Otherwise if the device is working, I leave it alone.

Lenovo ATI Driver

So Lenovo put up a new ATI driver for the FireGL5250 on their website and these are the changes they are listing
Version 8.343.3-070209a-044755C
(Fix) Hotkey 'Toggle internal panel scaling modes' in ATI Catalyst Control Center does not work.
(Fix) After opening Select a language in the preferences menu of the ATI Catalyst Control Panel, Notebook Panel Properties in Catalyst Control Center is blank.
(Fix) When changing LCD expansion setting, screen rotation angle is set to 0 degrees.

I am not sure if this is the same driver that WinVista made available. The Win driver is 8.632.0.0 and the one lenove put out is 8.343.3??

i went back to the vista's ATI driver, it is a newer date and version number so I assume it has the changes that lenovo listed. Plus ccc lists the Win Vista driver number with a lenovo extension
