I can upgrade to a 3 year on site with Thinkpad Protection for about $311

How much will I save by doing this when I buy the thinkpad as oppose to upgrading to it later?

I want to do this but drives the cost of the thinkpad 25% If I can I want to just get the default and upgrade later.

Also If I don't purchase Thinkpad Protection when I purchase the thinkpad, how long do i have to upgrade it later?

i think its a little cheaper when you're buying the laptop. Also, and confirm this with your dealer, you can upgrade your warranty before it expires. Example, if u have the standard 1 yr warranty, you can upgrade it to 3 yrs just before the 1 yr warranty ends.....

I plan on keeping the standard warrenty on mine(1 year). But, I have it insured with a personal property insurance through State Farm. It costs me about $35/year (this also has price inflation protection -- I think that was the word they used -- which is supposed to mean that they will not devalue my laptop over time.) and will cover any damage or if the notebook is stolen. It is cheaper this way, but there is one drawback.

They will not cover failed components. Meaning that if a stick of ram dies, they will not cover its replacement. Now, if a stick of RAM dies because I dropped the machine, they will cover that.

If you have a three year base warrenty, I would say this is definitly a way to consider as all aspects of your machine will be covered.

I have never had to have the laptop replaced, so I do not know how long it would take to get it replaced. But when I bought the policy, they said it would work kind of like a car. You take it to a serive center and get an estimate. If it can be fixed cheaply they will cover the repair. If it is too expensive they will cover the replacement (up to the original cost).
