I do NOT recommend popping off the keycaps to examine the mechanism. I accidentally popped off the down arrow keycaps and broke that key (the key would not make contact 20% of the time).

As for the mechanism, I have seen two types:

1. Gray rubber with scissor mechanism that scissors oriented top to bottom.

2. Blue rubber with scissor mechanism that scissors oriented left to right.

just pull carefully from the top (the side facing the screen, then pull towards you). it'll pop off. i do it from time to time when things get stuck under there, and i've never had any problems.

Keyboard issues

I'm no expert, but if you order a keyboard and request a FRU????? and Lenovo / IBM sends out a different keyboard with a label covering the original FRU, wouldn't that be fraud?

Just because it is a compatable keyboard, doesn't mean it is the keyboard you actually requested.

If they can't supply NMB than they should remove it from the list of keyboads available.

Just my 2 cents  :D

no.   please read IBM maintenance parts terms and conditions carefully.   there's no absolute guarantee that you will get exactly what you ordered since the terms say that substitutions can be made.

I understand they can send you whatever keyboard they want, however, I feel that they should no try to conceal the actual FRU number buy covering it with a sticker in an atempt to make it something that its not.

If they don't have the FRU that a consumer orders, they should advise them that they will recieve XYZ instead...............
This way the cunsumer has the option of following through with the purchase or not. Keeping things transpanant is the way to go.

They may have fine print stating this and that, but good business is being up front from jump street.........

Keep this in mind.
