Good news: T61 can use up to 4GB memory!

Read
http://www.notebookreview.com/assets/22089.pdf and I found this:
"Important information about memory: Lenovo notebooks announced April 2007, or after, have a new 64-bit architecture.
The standard memory can be expanded to 3 GB or 4 GB of addressable memory, depending on whether the operating system is a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system. The new notebooks with a Windows Vista 32-bit or previous Windows 32-bit operating system can support up to 3 GB of addressable memory. The new notebooks that have a Windows Vista 64-bit operating system can support up to 4 GB of addressable memory."
Seems nobody pays attention to this new feature.

"File Not Found" - OP, you need to remove that trailing comma in your link.
The PDF says it also has Firewire-400 (1394a) and a media card reader on the base unit.

But as long as you are still using a 32bit OS, your OS will still only be able to use ~3GB RAM.
I am planning to purchase a Santa Rosa T61 with a 32bit Vista. Should I configure it with 3GB of RAM or 4GB?

Depends on what you're planning to do.

That's an old news. Many of us already knew we could once they created the predecessor to the intel 945 chip.

You answered your own question.
32bit Vista = 3GB of RAM.
You should purchase 3GB of RAM.

When using a 32bit OS, is there any benefit of using 4GB of RAM over 3GB? I am planning to do a lot of photoshop, video encoding, etc.
What about dual channel? Doesn't that require using 2 equal sized sticks?

There is no benefit of 4GB of RAM with a 32-bit operating system. Vista won't be able to recognize all 4GB. Varying reports do indicate that it might see slightly more than 3GB, say like 3.2GB or something. However given the cost of 2 2GB DDR2 SODIMMS, it is not worth it.
I do not know about dual channel config and laptops.

Have you been checking their prices lately? They have been plummeting and are already quite affordable. Several are well under $200 on Newegg.com. That's comparable to the prices of 2x1GB kits just several months ago.

Yeah. It's not affordable (to me atleast) until it breaks $100.
