Squeaky Touchpad Button

I've had my T60 for about a month now and am still more or less impressed, although there have been a couple of quality issues that bug. First, one of the speakers intermittently gives off a static buzzy sound when playing back music (like maybe 3 times out of 10 times playing music). But that's not what I'm posting about.

What's started to drive me crazy the past week is my left touchpad button which squeaks ever so slightly whenever I click on it. If it were a door hinge in my apartment, I'd spray it with WD40, but I don't know what to do about a squeaky computer button. There's gotta be a home remedy to try here, because it'd be kinda ridiculous to send it in for a repair for something like this. Any suggestions?

Contact Lenovo service. They will most likely send you a replacement palmrest assembly which you can easily install yourself. The Lenovo website has movies which show you exactly how to replace the palmrest.

I had exactly the same problem with my one month old T60. :-(

What I did was to disassemble the Palmrest and then spray Silicone spray all over the inside of the left-button. It took quiet a bit of spraying, but it worked. No more squeaking. :-) Now the new problem is that the buttons seem a bit loose. Oh well, at least they don't squeak.

Hope this helps.

Both my touchpad buttons feel sorta loose - if I put my finger on them and nudge it around like it's the trackpoint I get a little bit of play on both the left and right, although only the left one is squeaky. Anyway, I called Lenovo and they are sending me a new palmrest with instructions to install. Maybe I'll buy some silicone spray to use while installing?

i have a 2 month old tpad...

i've been having the same problem, so finally i called lenovo today.
they will be sending me a palmrest, as well as the keyboard bezel (it had some flex in it) and a recovery disk set (i'd messed the vista on it the first day and was running xp).

my problem wasnt just the squeaky left button, there was a bit more to it, if i would press the left button on the left corner, i'd hear a click and the button would lift up and tilt to the side. to fix it i'd have to press the right most edge of it and it would click back into place.
it is a nuisance, since unless i dont hit the button right in the middle, it would click and dislodge.

i opened it up and figured out that there is a metal clip that sits under the button acting as a spring/guide. this metal piece snaps onto the underside of the button, on mine those snapfits are loose, hence the button would dislodge and lift up.
anyways, i should get the new palmrest later on this week and hopefully all will be well.

one thing i noted, this was my second call to tech support.
the first time was about 2 days after i got my tpad. the person on the other end was a jerk and i almost regreted buying a tpad.

this time around i had a very very pleasant experience.

blueblood: I had the same problem and Lenovo sent me a new palmrest assembly. Unfortunately, the problem will re-occur with the new touch key. I ended up dis-assembling the keypad and making a very small hole on the top of the right end of the key and wraping a staple around the metal clip under the key. This will fix the problem forever but is a little unsightly:
