I notice just recently that my battery's full charge capacity drops to a level of around 30-40 Wh which is far below its design capacity (56.16Wh). The battery is only one year old, so I decide to preform reset.

I opened the Battery Maintenance program and clicked "Perform Reset..." and continued my work. After around 1 hour, my T60 shut down like a sudden loss of power without any symptom, and the battery is simply dead after that:

1. I can't turn my T60 on with the battery only. Just nothing happens when pressing the power on key.

2. I turn my T60 on with AC adapter and battery. The remaining percentage of the battery is frozen at 96%, and the battery light keeps blinking.

2. Message Center gives a warning message: "Irreparable damage to the battery has been detected. Replace the battery with a new one. ", which is also shown when the mouse hovers the Power Manager Gauge icon.

Is there a way to rejuvenate my battery? It is a really unhappy experience that my first time battery maintenance ends up with a dead battery.

Don't know the answer to your question but on my T42p, I recently ran the "recondition" program in the Battery Maximizer and before I started, it specifically gave a warning NOT to use the computer until the reconditioning was completed. So by continuing to use your computer while the reconditioning process was going on, you may have inadvertently damaged the battery.

I remember something weird happened to my T60 two weeks ago. It could link to today's tragedy.

That is if I leave my T60 on for a while without touching it, the screen will be turned off. This is normal as the screen can simply be turned on again by pressing any key or touching the touchpad. However, in recent two weeks I can't light the screen by pressing any key if I leave my T60 there for a while. I have to press Fn+F4 to make the systen enter the stand by mode, then press Fn to wake the system up and light the screen.

After the death of battey today, the screen is back to normal.

I don't think the blanking screen is related, that happens on my T60 also. I saw a bug report on lenovo.com and I think a thread here about it. Don't remember whether there was a solution, maybe a BIOS update or something...

Your problem looks to be related to the battery literally itself. If you cannnot turn your T60 on battery then I am afraid perhaps it is dead. I don't know what to speculate but someone with "full of knowledge" from this forum will definitely better be able to answer that.
