Congrats on your new purchase :) I just received a few days ago the same system with almost exactly the same specifications. So far so good -- I found the set-up straightforward although I haven't done much customization. I had a few minor software issues (couldn't get adobe reader to open properly for ex.) but otherwise I'm enjoying my first Thinkpad (and laptop -- I've had a number of desktops). Has your system matched your expectations?

Great machine, but PC DOS 2000? That is really a weird option of OS for ThinkPad. Is that because of this you get a good deal?

Actually, PC DOS 2000 has always been an option for Thinkpads. Where I live, getting a system with DOS means a $200+ lower price compared to one that comes with XP or Vista. Althought recently only lower end systems have the DOS option.

I can't image anybody would relax on PC DOS 2000 in a T60/T60P. So are you gonna buy Windows separately? That would cost more than $200+. Or do people turn to free Linux/*nix in that case?

oh yes. more than enough I must admit. 2GB of RAM + 2GHz processor sure will help with Matlab & Mathematica calculations.

that's one of the factors I got this machine cheap, yes.
I don't mind PC DOS, as soon as I get my laptop I'll install Windows (I have it via MSDNAA)
