Want a Widescreen T. Is The Z The Same???

I was in Staples. Yes Staples and they had a Z61 with the widescreen for sale. Is the T60 widescreen the same size? IT was sorta thick...

I want to look at one of these in person before I buy. I am very veyr happy with my current T43 with the 15" flexview but I like the widescreen for my audio production and I want to remain thin....

Z series is more thicker, bulkier and a little bit heavier in nature than T series counterpart. Screen sizes (WS) are same though, the lid is thicker, not the screen.

Also Z series is more of a multimedia machine whereas T a business. I have owned both of them. Z will give you some extra slots, usb's, webcam and a card reader.

T60 is more portable, slim and smart.

See, I had a Z60 when they first came out. I sold it because I went to a desktop. now i'm away again a lot so I bought a T43 15''.

I guess my problem is that I want a widescreen but I want a thin one. I like the 14'' widescreen but the Z at staples was a little too thick and the Z60 15'' I had was a little too big and thick.

I do a lot of audio production and Web design so am I better off with a Z because it's aimed at multimedia? The T does my work great. I have a good graphics card and a gig of ram with a Pentium M 1.66. It runs vista aero fine.

Any ideas for me? Should I get a new T61 14'' widescreen when they're out?

I think you should, it will suit your field of work.

Also, it is rumoued that lenovo will stop offering Z series soon as they are adding almost all of it's features in coming up T61 for e.g. the 4 in 1 card reader, webcam etc.

Absolutely. I too think the Z series is too thick. I saw one at Staples two weeks ago and found it very ugly.

sometimes a businessman also needs a cardreader..
the camera is optical,you can choose between thinklights and camera.

I think the T series will still be flagship business model even if it becomes widescreen,camera built-in and so on.

Hmm.. I use my TP for business, and I don't think a webcam makes it any less a business machine. In my case, I wouldn't have minded one built in to my t60p, as I ended up going out and buying an external one. Why? When I'm travelling for business, I miss my young children (and they miss me.) That little webcam allows me to stay in contact with them. I've also found it useful for some meetings where I can't physically be there, but face-to-face visual is important.

The argument of "I don't use it for business therefore it makes it less of a business machine" is extremely weak. I don't use the touchpad, the "menu" key (between right-alt and right-ctrl), or the "thinkvantage" button for business. Does their existance make this machine less of a business machine?

On the other hand, the smaller batteries on the Z61T that are rumored to be going into the new T61's... _that_ seems to be making it less of a business machine. Not having the option of a massive battery for those 6 hour flights would suck.

I was quiet crazy abt the Z series when they first came out.... over here they were launched with titanium lids by default... but when i compared both the Z and the T, i clearly had a winner in terms of size, bulk and weight.... the t series is lighter and for some reason looks sleeker overall, but thats just my opinion....

Exactly. The distinction between "multimedia" and "business" machines has blurred. Webcams, card readers, widescreens etc. are good not only for fun, but also for serious applications. I don't understand why many people still think the only reason for using widescreens is to watch movies.

My old 15'' Z60 widescreen was pretty bulky...

I think I may wait to get a new 14.1'' widescreen T61. It seems like the best of both worlds. A bigger screen than the current T60 14'' (well wider'') and slimmer than the Z61 14'' widescreen.

If one buys it with both options, it will add an extra weight on one's back, especially if someone works in a 50+ storied building and has to carry it on subway, if not a vehicle, everyday.

Also, the way they're shifting their focus from Z series and making most of its, if not all options available to T61 sounds pretty much making multimedia machine to me.

Another possibility, as you mentioned about these things being optional, maybe it can be combination of both. T61 could stand as a multimedia and business machines with and without these options, respectively.

I saw a Z61 at Sam's Club the other day. I thought it looked OK styling wise. Interestingly, the headphone jacks were on the left side which was nice, unlike what we have seen in the picture of the T61. But the WXGA screen on this Z61 sucked big time. The only way I can describe it is to say it was very gauzy looking. What I mean is there was a very grainy texture to it, so it didn't look clear and sharp. At least it was not glossy.

I'm really hoping the T61 turns out to be nice because I'm in need of something with more horsepower than my beautiful, but now aging T42p.

The Z60t/Z61t 14.1" WS models are smaller than a T60 non-WS/WS in all dimensions. The Z60m/Z61m are larger than a T60.

Which Z61? The Z61t's headphone jacks are on the front, and for the Z61t, there are two types of WXGA screens (14" 1280x768 and 14.1" 1280x800) available.

I have a few Z61t's here at work and they are not thick at all. The thickness of the screen is the titanium lid. I've seen the black ones and they are much thinner and lighter, but we don't have them since we can't customize machines where I live.

Overall it looks to me that the Z61t is supposed to be very mobile, and will likely have improved battery life (due to less demanding components) then the T60p.
