the volume I'm getting out of my t60 speakers, with everything set to max, is terrible. even in a quiet setting, on most dvd's, max volume isn't max enuf; and the same is true in a noisier environment even when wearing headphones. it's really bugging me.

i've searched t60 messages and see that my volume problem has been an issue for other people, and the only suggestions i can see are to make sure that all 3 (or whatever number) volume controls are set to the max. which i have done. (i'm running vista). but it doesn't help.

so, my question is, if there's no other internal t60 solution, what about some kind of signal booster in 3rd party software or some such. does such a thing exist? is anyone using it?

Have you made sure you have have the maximum setting on hardware (vol. buttons on your keyboard) and software (through windows)? The max. volume you see in windows is what you set via your hardware. I can't sit near my T60 if I set both to maximum ... it is pretty loud.

well, in vista, i think i've got three settings places

the hardware volume control on the t60.

in the "sound" folder in Control Panel.

and on the screen in windows media player.

yeah, i've got 'em all maxed out, and it's still not loud enuf.

any other thoughts?

You should be able to pre-amp it some more, i know itunes does a quite neat job of it if you want it to..

i'm with floete and mrbjr on this one - the speaker volume just isn't that loud, even with everything at max.

i suppose the only answer would be to connect computer speakers, but it's a pain when i'm not at my desk and need loud volume for others to hear.

I was pretty bummed with the output when my t60 first arrived. if i maxed the volume, the speakers were tearing and still managing to be soft! but a little adjusting on the equilizers of winamp(i use it for all my music) did wonders for the output. Just bring down the bass levels and you'll be good. My speakers are not only loud but crisp now....

DVD will always be quiet because the audio has an extremely wide dynamic range. It will depend on your player software, but PowerDVD that I use has an dynamic range compression option to boost sound for noisy environments or for notebook users. Other software should have similar options, e.g. in PCMAC3Filter that I have installed for the divx files, also has a dynamic range compression option, as well as speaker selection (make sure it's selcted to 2.0 instead of the default 5.1).
