Thinkpad T60 just... beeps sometimes while typing

Sometimes when I'm typing the Thinkpad will just beep... for no apparent reason. It seems like it happens more often if I type quickly... anyone have any ideas what it could be? It does it both on power and battery, I'm running Win2K3.

Thanks!

System beep when you press more keys than the keyboard driver can handles at once. If you go to the device manager, enable "show hidden devices", you can see a device called "BEEP" in the system devices. Disabling it will disable the keyboard beep, but also all other system beeps.

OK I'm definitely disabling it, I hate having headphones on and it ruins my ears when it beeps...

The cause is the keyboard device itself. It's not an n-rollover as the early PC models were. On those, you could press one key, and while it was down, press another, and another and another, holding them all down and only the last would repeat.

The ThinkPad keyboards freak out if you have more than two regular keys (those except Alt, Ctrl, Shift) at once.

Imagine the set of tires athletes train on if like. It might help you pick up your fingertips before pressing the next key.
