Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver (updated driver) 5/8/07

#1 Post by gt5l » Wed May 09, 2007 2:40 pm

So this is posted on the Lenovo Support website. I have two questions:
1. What does it do? i couldn't find what it does or what it is needed for in the summary on the website
2. Why isn't system update picking up these updates? When I run system updates it does not list this one, nor did it list the BIOS upgrade. I had to go to the website and manually download and install these updates.

This is what it does
What This Package Does

This package installs the Storage driver to enable the following SATA
Storage Controller on the system board.

Device name in the Device Manager
------------------------------------------
Intel(R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller
Intel(R) 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller

I am still not sure what that means in terms of speed of data access

Win Vista Validation

#4 Post by gt5l » Wed May 09, 2007 10:41 pm

After installing this update I had to re-validate Win Vista. I called MS and they told me that after "major" HW mods Win Vista has to be re-activated. Did anyone else experience this?

I post similar thread here :

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=122328

It replace generic Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller to become Intel(R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller in Z61m with Vista Business 32bit.

So far there have been slight increase of speed when accessing disk and boot up time. I can count up to 8-9 seconds boot time decrease.

Is it just me? Anyone have similar experiences?
