How to open advanced docking

#1 Post by steinrr » Thu May 10, 2007 3:44 pm

I have a T60p and an advanced docking. I've been trying to figure out how the advanced docking is supposed to be opened. It should be possible to put a graphics card into it, and therefore it should be easy to open up?

Anybody who can tell me the procedure? Could not find anything in the user guide.

Were you able to figure this out? Don't have the advanced dock so I can't help but I know there are a few people using it here. I hope they can read your post if I bump it a little.

In ThinkVantage (Start -> Programs -> ThinkVantage) there is a help file about ThinkPad. It describes how to use your notebook, in the same file there is a chapter about accesories, including the docking stations and of course the Advanced Dock. It has diagrams on how to use and open the Advanced Dock.

Good luck,

Nice tip Vali, thanks.
Launch Help Center > Stay Current > Installing Accessories > ThinkPad Advanced Dock > Inserting the PCI Express Card

A step by step guide is written along with graphical instructions.

This is not a big deal....there are two little screens (phillips head) that hold the cover over the PCI-e slot in place. That's the only part of the Dock that is designed to be opened easily and for end-user purposes (that is, you don't need to get deeper inside).

I've ordered a XFX 8500GT video card to put into my Dock. I had it opened just to measure (myself, not trust the documentation) the dimensions. The XFX card is one of the VERY few cards that are small enough to fit in the Dock and which don't draw too much power. I wanted the 8500 series rather than a 7600 because of DirectX10 (rather than 9).

I hope this helps. Questions? Write to me.
