Thinkpad powers off when docked

I have a T60p with the latest BIOS revision (issued ~2 weeks ago) and am running Vista business x86. I also have an advanced dock. (right now with nothing except monitor/power connected).
If my laptop is SUSPENDED when I dock, almost inevitably the laptop powers off. By this I mean just the battery/power light is illuminated, and pressing the power butto boots up the system afresh.
If my laptop is ACTIVE when I dock, everything seems to work fine - the extra screen is enabled, battery starts charging, ethernet is connected and I can continue working.
This started a number of weeks back. I'm not certain it was associated with the latest bios change -- it could have been a previous one, or a Vista update.
Anyone else seeing this?
