T61 with IWS

I just checked lenovo.com's US site and seems like the T61's on sale there has US warranty only.

Anyone have information about T61 specs available with international warranty (esp in Asia)?

Thanks!

That's why I hesitated to bite this one. Instead, I just ordered a 2007C4U with 3 yr IWS, which should arrive here in a few days.

BTW, Jagged, do your feel huge difference in performance between your two T60s? The one I ordered comes with an X1300 video card, like your second T60 (but with an SVGA+ screen and a T2500 CPU).

Hello! So I guess T61 with IWS is not yet available.

Yup, I notice a HUGE improvement in performance especially when playing games. I used to play Civilizations 4 a lot and I can see the improvements between...

1GB RAM + x1300
1.5GB RAM + x1300
2GB RAM + x1400

But if you will not use much graphics intensive apps, I guess the GPU will not matter :)

The models you can configure online don't have IWS at the moment. But if you have a look into the TABOOK, there are some models with IWS.

I also need a notebook with IWS (for Germany) and will probably order one of the educational models. I called Lenovo yesterday and so I am sure it has IWS. Also if you enter the model number on the Lenovo web site it shows a list of countries (don't know about Asia though).

How can you guys tell that the configurable T61 models do not carry IWS?

First you can check the status online (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... yle=lenovo) by entering the model number and it will show you the message
This Machine Type is not eligible for International Warranty Support.
Second I called Lenovo support and asked if there is a configurable model with IWS. Answer: no

I also would prefer to configure one online but there seems to be no way to get an IWS for it :(

Well, model Tabook says 7658-15U has IWS. Yet the Lenovo Warranty website says 7658 does not qualify for IWS.

I just called Lenovo Sales. The representative said he could not tell if T61 CTO has IWS as the warranty information for T61 has not been updated (in their system). He asked me to call back in a week.

This is rather confusing.

Yes it is quite confusing because I tried entering some of the T61 models' 4-digit code in the Lenovo warranty info page (using tabook as a guide) and none came out with Asian IWS coverage.

I hope they'll have one in a few months time :)

@jagged

hey there, i see another kababayan here..

i was just able to receive the t40p that i had shipped to my parents house in US, i bought this from a fellow member here with one year international warranty, the buyer made sure that the warranty is good here in the Philippines, i'd like to know if we can enjoy the same perks as those bought and warrantied there units in the US? Like if we wanted to have the keyboard exchanged because the keys were already shiny etc etc,' cause i was thinking of having the top LCD cover replaced and maybe the keyboard, can we do this here? also, which service center/distributor do you go too for warranty purposes?

I am from the Netherlands, Europe. I bought my T61 in the US.

Lenovo's arguments for some models having IWS and someone not "different configurations and not all servercenters trained to service that model" is pure [censored]. It's them just about the additional $300 you pay for it. I have a model without T61. I bet the WILL service my unit here when necessary.

Dell does have a three year international next businessday onsite warranty on their Latitudes! Standard!

I just ordered an 8889CTO (a non-widescreen 14" T61 model) and it is eligible for IWS worldwide. Not sure if it's relevent but it came with a 3-year warranty as standard, not as an upgrade.

Yeah, but it's also a $300 more expensive.

Are you sure it comes with IWS? :)

EDIT: You are right:

Here in Portugal the only 15" model available is the 6460 which checking on the IWS page shows that it does not have coverage here.

The 6457 does show coverage on many countries so it's possible that some models still need to be updated to reflect the correct data.
