my first Thinkpad T60

I got mine this morning (missed the 1st delivery attempt on Friday, still can't believe I did), opened the box, I love the machine at the first sight, very sturdy built, a little heavy on 9 cell but it's OK; wide 15.4" LCD is beautiful, was worried about the resolution that WXGA can offer, but 1280X800 on a 15.4" is just what I want (being a graduate student who programs day in and day out, too fine resolution would actually be a burden to me); keyboard touch is superior; battery lasts considerably longer than my other non-TP lappies; followed the online instruction and added an additional memory stick that I happen to hold;

The machine runs very quiet (the integrated video card might be part of the reason), haven't tried it out in my heavy weight software developement env. but a casual run came out very swift.

After checking out the exterior of my new T60, I do believe Lenovo has room to improve (especially the plastic cover around where the speakers somehow bulges, a bit disappointing but not a big deal)

I didn't choose fancy config(no finger print reader, integrated video card), partly being on short budget and being practical, partly wanting longer battery hours instead of better image.

All in all, I am very happy with my decision of choosing T60. I hope I can take advantage of the machine for my research/study/job hunting for the last few month of my graduate program, and in the first 2,3 years of my future career.

Good choice. A joy for you to have a silent Thinkpad. Fan hyperactivity is a problem on Thinkpads with Discrete Graphics.

I wonder if the T61 really is that well engineering as Lenovo states to the new cooling system.

I just tested my simulation program on a small model (I would never want to use my T60 on any of the more complicated models which easily last a few days to 2, 3 weeks)

The results are satisfying, I ran the program on both T60 and my 2-year old Dell Optiplex GX280. It took T60 14 mins 49 seconds while it took Optiplex 8 mins 31 secs, which is not bad considering Optiplex was running on full capacity of 3GHZ, and T60 only on half capacity of only 987MHZ.

I have loaded the software development environment on T60 without any problem, that makes me feel very happy. It definitely will fit my needs to deign, research, writing up paper.

Last but not least, Thinklight works like a charm. I didn't even realize the usefulness of the feature until I tried it just now, and I know I would never want a lappy without the feature.
