My roomate brought home his T60 and I have a T60P

I noticed our color white are different.

I will take a picture tomorrow. but the general consensus is

the T60 has sharper white, rather than the T60P which has the

paler white.

my t60p white, taken full brightness, not really bright

Do you both have the same settings in "Power Manager"?

yeah Power manager is cranked up to 7 and its not on batteries
so you see I am disapointed especially after looking at the screen of my friends t60 although his 1028x768, his white is just different, sharper more crisp, higher contrast ratio maybe.

I have noticed that the whites on some cheaper screens tend to be *very* clear, uniform, and bright, with my T60 with its IPS screen having some variance depending on the part of the screen. That said, colors are much nicer overall on the IPS screen compared to the cheaper one.

I have a nearly new T60 with a flexview screen and I agree that the screen (rated at 200 nits) is not the brightest. However, it is widely recognized as the best screen <19" for color reproduction. The technology used in IPS (versus TN) lcd panels allows colors to be reproduced "true." In other words, if you adjust a photo in Photoshop, you can be confident that what you see is what you will print. For this reason, professionals who work with visual graphics greatly prefer IPS screens (they also have great viewing angles and text is very crisp) To some extent, the modest brightness level is a function of the IPS screen's great color reproduction. On any screen, if you turn up the brightness, the colors appear washed out. Ultrabright screens (such as those on Sonys) get around this by using glossy coatings which allow for brighter screens with extremely vivid colors. These are very pretty, but the colors are "surreal" rather than realistic.

I love my IPS screen and so do many others. But I can understand why for some a brighter, vivid screen would be preferable. :)

I have to agree that Sony LCD is very good, especially the new LCD of the FZ series (Santa Rosa chipset). They boast it to utilize Bravia backlight to reproduce colors as true as possible. The only drawback is its low resolution. Most Sony laptops have only resolution of 1280x800 and below.

Before I saw other screens I was satisfied with my screen, but now I am hunting for lcd screens

the most appealing to me is
the samsung screen 13N7059

highest CR, 500:1

what do you guys think?

I would not go with the Samsung screen if I were you. The Samsung screen on my PSP is terrible: low brightness, washed out color when viewing it near a bright source.

I believe it is an LG screen. The brightness seems right if I leave the brightness on max. But if I turn the brightness down to save battery life, the color is washed-out and dull.

The screen on thinkpad are chosen at random or by batch. It is just luck if you get a better screen than the other. Don't be disappointed by it.

13 is your t60 a widescreen or a normal screen?

Thanks

Mine is normal 4:3.
I forgot to mention: if you want more brightness for your LCD, get an LCD inverter from ebay. I don't know if these inverter can harm your machine in anyway but it is worth a try.
Or you can just change color and contrast in ATI Catalyst center to increase the whiteness, brightness, etc... (Right click on your desktop, choose ATI Catalyst Center, then go to Color). That is how I fix the display problem.

yeah I did that not brightness , I change the saturation, but still
that just to change the hues, but the white point is still the same
and it is still dull.

thanks
