t60 plus vista

hi there,

does anybody know how to improve the battery time of my t60 without removing vista:) evey solution will be concidered except uninstall ...

Here are some off the top of my head:

- disable (in BIOS or Task Manager) or turn off all hardware you don't use, e.g., LAN, IR, BT, etc.).

- stop/disable all unnecessary services.

- turn off aero and all other visual effects (including sidebars, etc.)

- keep the LCD brightness to the minimum you can handle.

- turn off WLAN/WWAN when not in use.

- ensure the power settings are for maximum battery life.

- limit hard/optical drive access to a bare minimum.


I haven't tried on my T60p, but I know that with an 8-cell on my x60s, I can manage over 8 hours, even with Aero on!

yeahh, that was my first thought too, i disabled it and the battery kept going on approx 30min more... but that doesnt satisfy me much, bcs after limiting i was able to work approx 4.5h but not to compare with my approx. 5.5h bfr vista.. and i wanna use that not xp...

hmm, i'll this solution lets see what happens... even though i did turn off most of the hardware already...i think i forgot something:) but thanks for the advices

You could undervolt your CPU and GPU. Although I believe NHC does not work with Vista, but you can set a voltage of 0.716V compared to the 0.900V the CPU works when working at 800MHz.

I use Classic Style (in XP though) but in Vista is the same. I don't know if this have also a direct impact on battery's life.

In my opinion, either Lenovo release new advanced drivers, or to settle for the poor battery life. I should say after SP1 is released, battery life would be reduced compared to XP.

i checked the power usage before i started killing some backgroundprocesses and i had a power usage about 25-30W which is way too much... and this with vista standart settings... (hmm i wonder why microsoft has this power saver stuff when they have all this apps which drain that much of power...) but after removing the sidebar, tweaking the start up (starts up aswell faster), switching off the fingerprint, IRA,transparent effect and some other stuff normally ppl dun nead which are activated by windows automatically i'm now on a power usage level approx 14-15w with screen on level 2, wireless and bluetooth off but lan plugged in.. aa and aero is functional i didn't switch it off.. but i think if i switch to vista basic mode i can save some energy too... just now in this moment my batt.sign shows me 18% and 50min runtime so i think its not that bad now for office working but i think i need to get myself that new harddrive from samsung with the build in memory that maight will help to save even more battery... here a link for that new harddrive from samsung

There has been a test recently, in a renowned german computer magazine ("c't"), comparing battery running time of vista and XP.
The Thinkpads (t60 and R60 tested) were the only tested laptops where the running time with both OS were exactly the same.

thats interessting..and after tweaking my notebook i used it today for two loading cycles for regular office stuff (some powerpoint and word and some research in the big World Wide Web) and twice i was able to work around 4.5 and 5 hours... with screen brightness on level 2 and aero working (without the transparency and without the widget stuff)... seems that like this combination the power usage is stable at approx 15w plus/minus 10%...
tomorrow i'll be able to try my notebook with the advanced ultrabay battery lets see how the working day will go on then ... lots of papers to write

Btw. if someone's interested, i wrote a Battery-Benchmark-tool, with the purpose of testing battery running time as close to reality as possible, meaning that you can set up your personal laptop-workload like surfing, writing etc and run the test like that. Its not 100% finished, but its already working fine with graphical results and such.
So we could use it to compare battery-running times. If someone like to have it, just drop me a line (batcap#gmx.net) and i send it.
