Running Vista on T60p

The max volume is very quiet ... any idea how to make it louder ?

Have you tried the volume buttons on the keyboard?

Yes, should I have some sort of SoundMX icon ?

There are TWO volume that work in tandem: 1) the volume on the round buttons over the keyboard, and 2) the Windows volume, accessable via the speaker icon in the traybar or on the Control Panel->Sounds window

a lot of people--including myself--have complained about this; I listen to a lot of my music through WinAmp, and I found bumping up the preamp can help;

the other option is to get a PCMCIA soundcard...

My ears are probably 25% deaf because of my music listening habits, but even with that I cannot stand the loudness if I have max. volume on both the h/w (buttons on kbd) and s/w (via windows).

Make sure that you keep the h/w button volume somewhere in the middle, and then adjust windows volume to your liking. There are 2 controls in windows 'Volume control' and 'Wave'. Set the volume control to somewhere near the middle, and set the 'Wave' to max. Most applications have yet another volume slider control in them (I am not talking about s/w preamps), make sure that you set it at high.

Mods, can we have a sticky for volume buttons on thinkpads somewhere? This question keeps popping up a lot ...

interestingly--as far as I can tell--Vista seems to have done away with the "master volume" and "wave" distinctions, and just merged the two into one slider.....or am I missing something?

That so? I had no idea MS did that ... I wonder why.
